Veronica's POV
I sit beside JD's bed the same way he did on my birthday. He wakes up and smiles. "Good morning." He plants a kiss on my cheek. "Good morning." He gets up. "So what are the plans for today?" He asks. "Well... I found a great picnic spot for lunch, then I'm taking you to a special surprise, then dinner, then to a hotel." I say. "Wow." He laughs. "Well we are having breakfast first." I get up and pick up a tray from the other side of the room. It has breakfast on it. He grins. "Thanks."
After he eats, we cuddle up next to each other. We just talk for a while and enjoy each other's company. After a little, he opens his gifts from Kyle and Erika.
JD feeds Slushy before we leave for our picnic. We have it on a lake. I unload the picnic basket. "Wow. Did you buy this stuff?" He asks. "Some of it. Some of it I made myself." I tell him. "Where did you make anything? How did you have a kitchen?" He looks at all the things I've put out. "I have my ways." I wink. He eats a little of each. "Wow." I eat some but I mainly watch him, hoping he likes the homemade stuff. "It's all so good." He kisses me. "Thanks."
I lead him to the edge of the lake where his surprise was. There was a canoe sitting there. "A canoe?" He laughs. We get on and I row. "Look at you." He jokes. "Shut up." I roll my eyes.
We get out to the middle of the lake. "It's super nice out here." He looks around. "Yeah, this is by my running trail." I run almost every morning and I saw the lake and knew JD would appreciate it. "Well it's nice." I put the paddle down. "So how's it feel to be nineteen?" I ask him. "It's alright. It's just another year." He shrugs. "You know when I first met you, I thought you were this dark, tortured soul. But you're really just a big old softy." I tap his nose with my finger. "Well I thought you'd go to a big fancy college and marry some big, hotshot lawyer." He retorts. "Well I will. My boyfriend is studying law." I remind him. "Looks like you are going to marry a lawyer," He stops, "fingers crossed." He crosses his fingers. "You're so funny." I kiss him. He wraps his arms around me. We almost tip the boat over but we steady ourselves. "Woah. Let's not drown in your birthday." I laugh. "Sounds like a good idea." He kisses me more gently.
We get back to land after some time. I take him back to the dorms. "Wear something nice." I warn him. "Did you make a reservation to somewhere fancy?" He sighs. "It's not super fancy," I assure him.
We get to the restaurant which is slightly fancy. The waiter comes up. "We will have a bottle of champagne." JD gives me a "we're underaged" look. I pull out my ID to show the guy. "I'll bring it right out." The waiter goes off. JD grabs my ID. "'March 28, 1970.' Where did you get this?" JD asks. "I have my ways." I smirk. JD gives me a look. "Fine, Erika got it for me." I cave in. "But come on, a little champagne won't hurt us. I did get wasted at a frat party and come out fine." I say. He gives up the fight and enjoys dinner with me.
I hand him a letter. "Read it out loud." I tell him. I want to see his reaction to it. He looks at it. "'Dear Jason Dean, your academic record and your experience make you a perfect candidate for this internship. I look forward to meeting you in person and helping you to become a great lawyer. Sincerely, Harold Sullivan.' What is this?" I grin, "So I may have sent an application for a law firm internship." I tap my foot in excitement. "Thank you! When does it start?" He takes my hand. "They'll send you a letter."
Once we get back, he's exhausted. "You turning in?" I ask him. "Join me." He drags me to his room. I snuggle up next to him. "You have a good birthday?" I look up into his big brown eyes. "Yes." He looks into my equally brown eyes. "Good."
I'm so sorry I took so long to get this out and I know it's not my best. I recently went through a really rough breakup and I took it so hard I forgot how to write. But I'm back and ready to do my stuff. I hope this didn't suck but I'll have a better chapter next one.
