Jack's blessing

"Jack!" The doctor cried, sprinting at full speed from the Tardis door as none other than Captain Jack Harkness stood lent against a lamppost. He grinned wide and opened his arms, wrapping them firmly around the doctor as she reached him and swinging her in circles. He placed her down roughly and kissed her lips just the same, pulling back with a childish smile full of joy. "Oh doctor! I'm so happy to see you- you are actually the doctor this time, right?" Jack tilted his head, but his smile lit back up when the doctor nodded her head quickly. "Yeah! This is the new me! Talk about an upgrade right?" The blonde put her hands on her hips and swayed fluently, making Jack snigger.

The fam still stood at the Tardis door, close enough to hear the conversation but lost as all credit. "Glad they're reunited, who knows how many people he's kissed before he found the right doctor." Graham added, earning a grin from Ryan but Yaz still staring. She wondered if the doctor and Jack when back a little further than friends, I mean, that kiss looked pretty hearty. She found herself glaring accidentally at the two, arms crossed and stance stiff, like a disappointed mum picking up her suspended son from school.

Ryan noticed Yaz's distant gaze and tapped her on the arm, snapping her back to reality. "You alright?" He asked. Yaz swallowed after realising she'd been staring hatefully at the joyful reunion across the pavement, loosening herself and smiling convincingly. "Yeah I'm fine." She said, though her tone had stuck bitter and Ryan could hear it. "You looked like you'd seen some chicks hands on your boyfriend, you sure you're alright?" He asked innocently. Yaz shook her head. "Just zoned out, I'm fine, I promise." She smiled weakly up at him, guilt flooding her.

Technically, Ryan was right. Yaz was glaring at Jack putting his hands all over the doctor, her doctor as she saw it, all whilst they were having a brilliant time. She couldn't help feel selfish. She looked back up and her stomach jumped. Jack had one hand on the doctors hip, the other ruffling her hair playfully whilst she giggled uncontrollably. They were both laughing, smiling, they were both so happy. Why was she so miserable watching them?

Just then she caught eyes with the doctor, making her face heat up quicker than pan of boiling water. The blonde's eyes examined Yaz, then moved to Ryan and Graham before waving and ushering them all over. Yaz had to admit she was more than tempted to storm back into the Tardis and just wait for Jack to leave, but she knew this was important to the doctor. "Come on then!" Graham pushed both her and Ryan forwards and walked behind them as they awkwardly approached the two old friends. Jack turned and smile at them, not as welcoming as he had the doctor but what could they expect.

"Jack, this is my fam!" The doctor chirped. "This is Ryan, Graham and Yaz!" She pointed to each one of them, allowing them to wave and say hello. "Oh we've met already, briefly, but we've met." Jack chuckled, throwing a cheeky wink at Graham. The doctor giggled again, a sound that warmed Yaz's heart- only she wasn't the cause of it this time, so it hit a different, more spiteful nerve. The blonde immediately sensed something off about her friend, but left it unsaid.

"I know! How about I treat you all to some lunch? I don't know much about earth food, but I do know that this place cooks some banging waffles!" Jack suggested, pure energy and playfulness radiating from him. "Sounds good to me!" Graham nodded, Ryan nodding too. Yaz smiled as he looked at her, but had to stop her face from frowning when he looked away. The doctor looked amongst her fam and gave Jack a thumbs up when she saw their positive expressions, allowing him to grab her by the hand and lead the way. She was just happy to see her old friend again, she hadn't really noticed how distant Yaz had been.

They arrived at a waffle restaurant called impossible waffles and found a round table to sit down. They grabbed some menus and looked at the options up and down, Jack getting over exited and loud over everything he considered ordering. Yaz could barely focus on the choices as her mind overthought everything about the doctor and Jack's relationship. Had they dated? Were they dating? Did they like each other? Was it just a matter of time before they got together? Her wild thoughts were interrupted by the doctor tapping her arm.

She looked up, unable to look any less depressed than she felt. "You alright, Yaz?" She asked, her gorgeous greeny hazel eyes shimmering and her smile as infectious as ever. Yaz nodded. "Yeah, Just overwhelmed by choice I guess." She faked a small laugh, which if anything gave it away that she was in fact not alright. The doctor smirked and took her hand from the table, interlocking their fingers on top of the menu. Yaz couldn't contain her blush, staring starstruck at their hands perfectly fitted together like puzzle pieces.

The blonde used one of her fingers to point to an option on the menu. "That's what I'm having, it's a bit big for just me. Care to help?" She asked, her bubbly tone mixed with their held hands forcing Yaz's mood sky high. "It'd be a pleasure." She joked, squeezing her hand softly. The water arrived and Yaz sighed as the doctor pulled her hand away from her own to point to everyone's orders, and to help Jack pay with whatever weird currency he was carrying. Everyone waited patiently for their food until it arrived, digging in almost immediately.

Yaz couldn't stop herself smiling like an idiot whenever her and the doctors forks would clash as they both reached for the same section, or when their eyes would meet with their mouths full. Suddenly, Jack dropped his fork on the table and gasped loud and dramatically, making everyone on the table (and possibly any other table in the restaurant) turn to look at him with concern or curiosity. "What's up?" The doctor asked, lent casually on her arm just a few inches from Yaz's shoulder. Jacks face was stuck in a cheeky grin, or more like a mischievous smirk. His eyes darted from the doctor, to Yaz, to the doctor, and back to Yaz before landing back to his blonde friend.

"I didn't realise you had a partner this time around!" He clapped his hands excitedly, leaving the fam to exchange odd looks. He lent forward on his elbows, holding his head up with his hands. "How could you leave that out, Doctor?" He faked an offended tone, making the doctors eyebrows shoot up. She knew what he was talking about- or who he was talking about, and could already feel the embarrassment building inside her. He was not about to call her and Yaz a couple, then she'd be forced to comment on it, and she wasn't ready to admit her feelings yet.

She casted an apologetic look to Yaz, before smiling awkwardly at her old friend. "Me and Yaz? Oh, we aren't a - a thing." She could tell her face was as red as a tomato, and Jacks smile only widened. "Ohhhhh, you mean you haven't said anything yet? Oh you were always the slow type, doctor." He got to his feet and stood between the doctor and Yaz, who's faced were both heated and flustered. They both looked at Graham and Ryan for help, but they were holding back laughter as the situation unfolded.

"I, as captain, give you two my blessing to be hitched- yadayadayada- and I pronounce you time-lord and wife!" He rose his hands in exaggeration, leaving the two girls to stare and each other with the same shocked expression. Yaz half expected the doctor to laugh it off and pretend it didn't happen, and the doctor expected Yaz to do the same, but they both just stared, almost hopeful for the other to agree. That's when the doctor lent in and kissed Yaz, smiling softly into it before pulling away with loving eyes. "How about we try girlfriend and girlfriend before we try time-lord and wife?" She suggested, earning a giddy chuckle from Jack.

They left the restaurant, Yaz and the doctor hand in hand. Jack, Ryan and Graham walked slightly behind them, talking, but Jacks smirk staying plastered on his face as if to say 'I did that' to anyone walking by. Yaz could feel his gaze on their backs, but let him continue.

After all, she had him to thank.
