Something to wash the last chapter down 🥺

"Yaz? Yaz!" The doctors voice rung throughout the Khan house at the humble time of 6:25 in the morning. Yaz opened her eyes a crack, staring at the brisk light shining through her curtains and hoping silently that she'd dreamt that. God forbid the doctor wake her dad up at this hour. "Yazzzz!" Nope, that was the Doctor alright. Yaz sprung from her sheets and walked groggily out of her room to the top of the stairs, meeting eyes with the doctor's cheery face.

The tired girl shrugged as if to ask 'what?', making the doctor throw her hand up. "Morning!" She chirped. Yaz sighed out, catching a glimpse of the clock and groaning as she walked down the stairs. "You're up early." She muttered, heading to the kitchen to get some breakfast. Since she was up so early she might as well be productive.

Since the start of quarantine due to COVID19 almost 3 weeks ago, the doctor had been staying with Yaz and her family. She'd tried to visit Ryan and Graham in the Tardis, but Yaz had made sure she respected the guidelines set by the government like everyone else. That didn't mean she wasn't bored out of her mind however, and terrorising the Khan family with her fragile attempts to keep herself busy was one of her many activities daily.

Some days she'd spend working on the Tardis, some days she'd be playing with her sonic, some days she'd be inventing and constructing new bits of alien tech, and on other days she'd be doing whatever stupid craft she found on the internet. Normally the messiest ones, might I mention.

Yaz yawned and rubbed her eyes as she strolled into the kitchen, blindly grabbing a box of cereal and a bowl before opening the fridge and pulling out the milk. She poured her breakfast into the bowl and turned to get a spoon from the draw, nearly loosing her balance at the sight of the hob and sink. It was covered in flower and eggs, bits of what looked to be dough or cake mix stuck to the counter top and all over the pans.

She stared at it for a while, eyes wide and mouth open trying to form even a basic sentence. It was a mess, and a more concerning mess given that the oven was also smoking. She dashed to pull it open, reaching for a tea towel and batting the black clouds of smoke that funnelled into her face. She flicked the switch off, leaning back and coughing madly as the door slammed shut again. After a moment of silence, Yaz turned to the blonde in the doorway swaying guiltily on her heels.

She met eyes with a furious Yaz and looked away, biting her lip and twiddling her thumbs. "Sorry." She muttered, making Yaz groan. "What were you even doing?" She growled quietly, trying not to wake anyone up to such a mess. The doctor nodded to the TV, which was paused on some cooking show with Jamie Oliver. Putting two and two together, the Khan sighed and rubbed her face, trying her hardest to be tolerating.

"It's Fine, it's all fine, let's just clean this up ASAP." She said, already grabbing and stacking dirty bowls and spoons to put in the sink. The doctor agreed and started to help, wiping the hob and tables down with a rag. She went to wipe the sink, accidentally walking into Yaz and leaning against her in shock. The two spun their heads and looked into each other's eyes with a look of surprise, a hint of horror and a bit of- blush?

The doctor couldn't help glance down at Yaz's lips, having to force her eyes to focus on the sink behind her as to not make the situation even more awkward. She couldn't deny her feelings for the copper had grown massively since they'd traveled together, and even through she'd tried everything to ignore it she just couldn't. She really loved her, and hated seeing her down or angry- especially at her. She felt like a burden since this quarantine had started, but Yaz was always so lovely about every issue she caused.

She didn't dare mention that she'd been trying to bake a cake for Yaz as an apology for wrecking her curtains- that's a long story- and maybe even admit her true feelings. She'd seen people online 'proposing' to their crushes with cakes and presents, and it always seemed to go well. She didn't suppose they burned their cakes, and nearly set their kitchen on fire though.

Yaz could feel her heart beating out of her chest. Her cheeks were burning, her hands were shaking, her stomach was erupting with butterflies as her eyes stayed locked on the doctor pressed against her. She could feel her hands longing to reach forward and stroke her face, to lean in and kiss her, to say those three words that'd been lingering on her tongue for months. She loved the doctor a lot, that was for sure, but could she take the risk?

It felt like years the two were lent there, mid motion as they feared making any sort of move. Yaz chuckled awkwardly, gently relaxing the pressure she was placing on the doctors side and placing the bowls down in the sink. She looked back at the blonde, who was very clearly shell shocked, staring at her with the rag still poised in the air. With a sudden burst of confidence, Yaz took the rag out of her hand and interlocked her own fingers where it once was.

She smirked suggestively, the Doctor taking a moment to catch up before returning a similar expression. They locked both of their hands together and lent in more, their faces inches from touching. Everything felt perfect, until Yaz Heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs..

"Girls? What's going on here?" Yaz's mum said, groggily standing in the doorway as Yaz and the doctor jumped apart desperately. "Nothing!" They both insisted, grabbing the nearest job that needed doing to avoid any further questions. The older woman cocked a brow at them both, but went into the living room unphased to start the day. "I'll have an egg muffin please Yaz, don't skip the ketchup!" She called.

Yaz and the doctor shared a relieved expression, sighing out quietly and giggling after under their breaths. Yaz began making her mums requested breakfast, so she wouldn't think anything of what she'd seen, watching the blonde brush the dust of the counter top and grab a cookie from the jar. So close, oh well, maybe next time.. she thought with a blissful grin.
