She felt weak. Her body was heavy, her lungs hurt as she lugged in each breath, her vision was blurry and her hearts were aching. She stumbled, just about being able to see her feet hit the Tardis floor but not hearing the dreadful clank they made as she walked. She looked up despite her neck begging her not to, only being greeted with yet another explosion sending her backwards.

She hit the ground hard, the world fazing in and out of slow motion. She felt numb, not even processing the pain of landing on a pile of rubble until a moment after she had. Glancing up and letting tears fog her eyes, she was sure this was it. This was how this run was going to end, her alone covered in dust and debris, sobbing and allowing fate to take its course. Her brain was clouded, but one face kept appearing.

It was Yaz. Every time she'd open her eyes, her comforting face would flash in front of her. She'd be smiling, or winking, or laughing, sometimes even talking. She could hear her, though she could hear nothing else around her. It was like she was actually there, not that that would've been a good thing. Although, it was nice to have some company, and Yaz's voice was a far nicer white noise than explosions.

"Come on Doctor!"

"I think it's this way!"

"We have to go back for them! We need to help!"

"It's okay, everything's going to be okay."

"Promise me you'll never leave me again.."

"I love you, doctor."

"Doctor?"

The doctor found herself suddenly staring at Yaz, face to face. She looked around her, realising her body was no longer in so much pain, nor was she on the floor and dirty. She was stood upright surrounded by white, her friend not far away looking back at her. She looked content, her hands folded as she waited for the blonde to speak. "Where are we?" She asked, fearing the answer was something she already knew.

Yaz smiled a little. "Your head, somewhere deep in your mind." The doctor let out a disappointed sigh, spinning on her heals and pacing slowly. She knew this wasn't real, how could it have been? But some part of her was hoping it was, and that Yaz was really here with her. She had plenty she wanted to say to the real her, to admit, to apologise for, to ask, before it was all over and they'd never see each other again.

"Right.." she whimpered under her breath. "Course it is." She Heard Yaz hum and looked up at her slightly, almost resenting how beautiful she was. She looked so real, sometimes she hated how well her mind could toy with her. "So you're not Yaz then?" It wasn't really a question, but it felt good to get it out loud. Yaz giggled. "No, not really, but what does it matter? I'm the closest you're going to get to her." She lowered and sat down, patting the glowing ground beside her.

The doctor reluctantly sat beside her, sighing and staring into the white abyss as if there was something to look at at all. She lent back on her hands, letting her emotions take the wheel for however long she had left. "So this is it, this is how it ends?" She asked, not bothering to look at the girl beside her. "Seems like it, but it wouldn't be the first time you've thought that." The doctor smiled.

Yaz's voice was so comforting, so calm, so soothing. It made the reality of the situation a lot more bearable, a lot easier to forget, so she could enjoy this moment with just her and Yaz. "Y'know, I wish hadn't been so scared of what other people thought- while I had time with her. I wish I'd said something." She said, turning to meet eyes with the copy of Yaz her mind had made for her.
