For argument's sake

Yaz sat on her phone in her room, scrolling mindlessly through twitter and instagram as she waited for time to pass. Her and the doctor were going out on a date to a new restaurant in town, and she'd been so exited she'd got ready hours earlier. She was dressed up as nice as she could, in a long flowing red dress with a full face of makeup, dangly earrings and pretty bracelets.

She hadn't put so much effort into a date since- well, ever. She really wanted it to go well, since their last date didn't go as planned. The doctor caught an old couple staring oddly at them holding hands at a restaurant, and she did not take it well to say the least. Yaz wanted to make it up to her, even though what happened wasn't her fault. She wanted her and the doctor to have a normal relationship- well, as normal as it could be.

She sighed and placed her phone down, laying back onto her bed and thinking of the doctor. She blushed at the gorgeous image that flashed in her head, her blonde hair, her bubbly smile, her shiny eyes and perfect cheeks. She was Yaz's definition of perfect, everything she'd ever wanted in a relationship. She giggled under her breath, but hitched at the sound of the Tardis materialising at the foot of her bed.

She sat up quickly, a little surprised at the timing and placement the blue box had appeared in. Normally the doctor would park outside rather than in her bedroom, though she didn't suppose there were any rules against it. She stared shellshocked at the sight until the doctor rushed out, and her eyes went pebble.

She was wearing a black suit, with loose trousers held up by her usual braces, a white shirt and a flashy bow tie. Yaz could feel herself drooling, but was overridden by the concerned look on the doctors face. "Doctor?" She asked quietly, but didn't have time to finish her sentence as the blonde reached down and threw her arms around her. Yaz gasped after the sudden gesture, but hugged back.

"Whoa! What's this for?" She asked with a chuckle, but the doctor pulled back with more worry laced in her gaze. Yaz cocked a brow and shrugged, putting her hands on her cheeks softly. "What is it?" She practically begged, calming as the blonde's face melted into a smile. "Sorry, i just needed to know you were okay. Something- came up, sorry I scared you." She flashed her normal cheeky smile.

Yaz smiled back, but became worried at the sound of 'something came up'. The doctor had done this before, shown up randomly quickly in the Tardis with shear panic written all over her, only to calm down and laugh when she'd see everything was fine. At first it wasn't unusual, but now it seemed strategic and worrying. Yaz's thoughts were cut off by the doctors lips connecting with her own, kissing her slowly and pulling away with their foreheads touching.

"It's Fine, we have a date in 45 minutes anyway." Yaz cooed, running her thumb down her lovers chin suggestively slowly. The doctor grinned, moving in for another kiss but being stopped by her lovers thoughtful and distant look. "What's wrong?" She asked, swinging and sitting next to her with a welcoming smile. Yaz knew she was being nosy, but she had to know what had got the doctor so jumpy recently.

Maybe it was because they'd only come out of a potential super war badly scared 3 months ago, maybe because the doctor had been captured and forced to spend god knows how long away from her fam, maybe because she was afraid of loosing them again. Yaz felt bad for having to ask, but she couldn't help think she was suffering alone again- even after she'd promised she'd open up more.

"Doctor, what's with all this 'appearing randomly and panicking over nothing only to calm down instantly'? It's been happening a lot recently." Yaz said, trying to keep a light tone to her voice. She flattered her expression as the doctor seemed to grimace at the question, looking away awkwardly and staying quiet. "I don't know what you mean." She muttered, fiddling with her fingernails.

Yaz sighed slowly, giving her girlfriend a knowing look. They'd been down this road before, she could tell when she was hiding her feelings. "Doctor, look at me." She said softly, grinning at the little expression the doctor was pulling. "What is it? It can't be that bad, surely." She put her hand on her cheek, softening at feeling of the blonde leaning into her touch.

The doctor took a shaky breath, pulling her face away from Yaz's hands in attempt to make the situation more serious. She sat up and stared into her lovers eyes, trying not to melt under her spectacular gaze. "Okay, so somethings bothering me. But it doesn't actually matter- it's just me overreacting again, don't worry." She felt herself rambling and paused, clearing her thoughts.

"I know about the innocent at work today." She breathed out, causing Yaz to freeze. She knew what she was talking about, but how did the doctor know what she was talking about. Whilst on duty at work, Yaz had encountered a graffiti artist painting homophobic and racist slurs on old houses. She tried to defuse the situation quietly, but he called her slurs and ended up punching her throat. Thankfully it didn't bruise, but the names he'd called her had stung deep down.

She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. She didn't know how to feel, but embarrassed was sure one. "With the guy who-" she was cut off by the doctors nod, making her lean her head on her hand. "How did you find out about that?" She snapped, not meaning to be so harsh but being to ashamed to admit she was hurt. The doctor looked away, clearly searching for the right sentence.

She looked back at Yaz, but she'd looked away to stare at the floor with a stone expression. "Why didn't you tell me?" She said, changing the subject quickly as possible. She didn't really feel like explaining how she'd hacked into Yaz's radio. "Because it was none of your business! It happened at work, when I was on duty, so you didn't need to know." She said, causing the doctor to look away guiltily.

She truly had been trying to keep an eye on Yaz to make sure she was safe at all times, she didn't want to loose her again. She never meant to upset her, but she had to know she was fine. "But it upset you, we're supposed to talk about things that upset us- you said that." She mentioned quietly, and it seemed to defuse the angry Khan a little. She nodded slowly, rubbing her cheeks to smudge the makeup she'd ruined back in.

"But it didn't upset me."
"Yes it did."
"No, Doctor, I'm fine. See? I'm fine."
"Are you?"
"Course, why would I lie?"
"Because you don't wanna admit it."

Yaz glanced at her girlfriend, but shut her eyes and looked away quickly. She knew she was right. The doctor slipped her hand into Yaz's, holding it softly. "It's okay, for arguments sake I'm not one to talk about feelings. I just want to know you're alright, Yaz, I worry about you." She lent over and kissed her cheek, and was relieved to have her smile staring back at her.

"It's okay, and I'm sorry I didn't say anything. I'm the one who mouths you off for not opening up, and I'm certainly no role model." Yaz chuckled, squeezing the doctors hand back. They stayed comfortably quiet for a while, before Yaz's phone buzzed. She reached over and checked it, laughing at the text thatd popped up. "It's from Ryan." She sniggered, flipping the phone around and showing the doctor.

She grinned warmly and stood up, offering her hand to Yaz and pointing to the Tardis. "This sounds like a Perfect Time to head off, shall we?" She rose her eyebrows seductively, leering her girlfriend up and into the telephone booth.
