Camping

After what felt like years of begging and whining, Graham, Ryan and Yaz has managed to convince the doctor to take them to the countryside for a camping trip. Not on some weird alien planet- Earth, Cornwall more specifically. The doctor hated the idea, so much so that she'd shut it down multiple times before. Present day earth was boring, she had all of space and time at her fingertips and she was not going to waste it sitting around.

But, she loved her fam undeniably, so when Ryan pulled out his puppy dog face she just couldn't turn him down. She'd selected a campsite, and a pitch right on the edge of the cliff face, so the sun sets and rises would be a sight. At least she'd have something to look forward to. However, her other motivation for agreeing was none other than Yazmin Khan.

She'd fallen head over heals for the police woman, and even after months of travelling together she still couldn't shake the blush from her face when she'd smile. She felt in love, but Yaz was always reading mixed signals and she didn't want to make her uncomfortable. She still hadn't worked out if she was even interested in women- the doctor still had to wrap her head around the fact that a new relationship with a girl would be extremely different than all her others.

But she tried her best to cram the feeling down forcefully, avoiding addressing it at all costs. It wasn't worth loosing such a brilliant friend over her stupid emotions.

The fam arrived at the campsite and breathed in the fresh air. The spot was beautiful, trees surrounding their pitch and separating them from everyone else, lush green grass and a fire pit, posh tents; but most importantly the view. You could see right over the water into the horizon, and come morning the sunset would be fully viable. "Wow, check this place out! Great choice Doc." Graham gushed, stepping out and immediately rushing to the tent he wanted.

"Yeah it's pretty, thought i could have a say over at least one thing regarding where we are." The doctor said sarcastically, earning a smug chuckle from the boys. Yaz grinned, picking up her bag and an armful of camping chairs and stepping into the grass to set them up. The blonde watched from the doorway of the Tardis, too stubborn to go out and join in with the camping talk but so desperately wanting to.

As if it heard her thoughts, the Tardis slammed its doors and pushed the Doctor directly into Yaz, who caught her by her waste. She turned a deep shade of red at the closeness of their faces, and the feeling of Yaz's hands on her waste made her tingle. They stood still for a moment, a mix between feeling too awkward to move and resistance to close the gap. Yaz sniggered, releasing her grip much to the doctor's disappointment.

"Easy there. You alright?" She asked, glancing at the Tardis which had opened its doors again innocently. The doctor felt lost for words, but forced the shell shocked feeling down again. "Y-Yeah- yes I'm fine! Sorry, must've slipped, need a hand with anything?" She offered, her friend nodding and gesturing inside the phone booth. The doctor followed her in, shooting the dirtiest look she could muster at the Tardis as she went in.

As the day drew nearer and nearer to night, the fam set up chairs around the pit and lit the fire. They placed cans and such on the embers to cook, and prepared marshmallows for s'mores. Yaz sat down in a chair facing Graham over the fire, turning her phone off and setting it in the cup holder on the arm. She was thinking hard about the doctor, missing the feeling of her in her arms from earlier. She didn't understand her own feelings, but she knew she loved the blonde dearly.

The doctor stepped out of her tent, brushing the dirt off her knees. "This is why I hate camping, look at all this dirt already in my bed! I have to sleep there!" She whined, making the fam laugh. She walked over, scrunching her nose up at Yaz as she saw what she was sat in. That was her seat. Yaz lowered her eyebrows, smiling confusedly at her friends expression. "What's up?" She asked.

"That's my seat you're sat in officer Khan." She smirked smuggly, practically hearing Ryan roll his eyes. Yaz giggled, realising she was in deed sat in the doctor's chair- feeling a strange feeling of cockiness rising up inside her. Maybe it had something to do with her affection towards the doctor, but she didn't want it to end. "Just sit in mine! I've warmed this one up." She sunk down in the chair, wrapping her arms over herself and basking in the look on the blonde's face.

The doctor looked away with her eyebrows raised, smirking playfully and in one swift movement sitting across Yaz's lap. Her friend squealed in surprise as the blonde swung her legs over the arm of the chair and let her neck hang over the other. She crossed her arms and looked up at Yaz, who had her hands raised in shock. "I warned you, did I not?" She said, making a huge smile spread over Yaz's face. She rested her hands on the blonde's torso, clearly not bothered.

They were both secretly euphoric, their emotions all over the place but too nervous to move it any further. To shift her social awkwardness, the doctor took out her sonic and played with it in her hands to distract from Yaz's arms lent on her middle. She couldn't help the little smile she held on her lips.

After a while of sitting still and quiet, only the crackling of fire and hollow wind to be heard, the Doctor groaned as her neck ached from hanging it over the side. She moved to sit up, Yaz letting her lean her head on her chest. It had gone dark a while ago, so she couldn't see the bright redness of her face- thank god. She could've stayed that way forever, head pressed against Yaz's soft jumper, fighting the instinct to fall asleep there and then. She hadn't felt this way in a while, and it was nice.

The moment was interrupted by a loud gurgle, the Doctor jerking her head up in embarrassment. Yaz sniggered, placing her hand on the doctors stomach and tapping it lightly. "Was that you?" She said through laughs, the blonde nodding shyly and clenching her core muscles to shut the noise up. Yaz rubbed up and down comfortingly, with a soft face as if to tell her it was okay. "Someone's hungry, should I start supper?" She asked, Graham and Ryan agreeing as well.

Yaz looked to the doctor on her lap. "I'll need to get up for that." She said playfully, earning a pout. The blonde lent her head against her cheek, shutting her eyes. "I don't want you to move, Yaz." She moaned, making her friend blush intensely. She wrapped her arms around her back, pulling them closer- if that was even possible. Another grumble interrupted them. "I don't think your belly feels the same." She joked, the Doctor going hot with a mix of embarrassment and love.

They stared into each other's eyes for a minute, before the doctor lent in and kissed her cheek. She hated camping, she hated the the present, but Yaz was in this present- and she loved Yaz.

And if you were worried, the doctor finished the evening with a delectable dinner of sausage and eggs.
