Yaz opened her eyes a crack, squinting at the light that was seeping in through the curtains. She groaned and rubbed her face with her hands, slipping her warm covers over her head before sitting up. She yawned and stretched her hands over her head, looking around the room at the golden glow reflecting off her mirror. She pulled back the duvet and got to her feet, stretching again as she headed to her wardrobe to pick her outfit for the day.
She passed her desk and stopped, catching a glimpse of her phone lighting up with a new message. She lent down to inspect it and smiled warmly as her favourite persons contact flashed, picking up the device and signing in. She sat her head on her hand and read the text over and over, her cheeks burning more and more each time. She loved morning messages, especially from this particular person, as it started her day with a positive that took a lot to drown out.
'Good Morning Yaz! Sorry if I woke you, well you must already be awake if you're reading this, I'm still getting used to all this texting business. I was hoping to see you later after work? I know it's only been two days, but I miss my favourite police officer! Call me when you can, or shout and I'll come to you! You know I can do that whenever, Don't you? Lots of love- the doctor.'
Yaz sighed and shut her phone, telling herself to reply as soon as she was dressed and ready. She was already running a bit late, and she knew she'd take a while to respond to such an adorable message. She picked out her uniform and got into it in record time, swiping her phone and keys off her desk and rushing out of her room. She hopped down the stairs and into the kitchen, throwing a slice of bread into the toaster and waiting impatiently with butter in hand.
Just as her toast jumped from the toaster, Yaz's phone vibrated against the kitchen counter. She lent over to read it, skimming over the words as she messily smeared some marmite onto her toast and crammed it into her mouth. It was from the doctor, and she sounded frantic. Although Yaz only had about 5 minutes to be out of the door and on her way to the station to start her shift, she took a seat at her rounded table and focused on the text.
'Hi again Yaz! Sorry, i know you must be on your way to work by now, but I've got some stuff I'd love you guys's help with. I'll give you three clues- alien planet, crazy strong monsters, and citizens in danger. I know that last one normally gets you to say yes! I'll pick you up as soon as your done reading this, trust me I have my ways- the doctor'
Yaz felt her breath catch in her throat, sitting up quickly and frantically trying to type a text telling her not to come. She'd skipped work so much recently she didn't know how much of a job she'd have left if she skived off again. Despite how quick she was hitting the letters on her phone keyboard, she knew it was already too late as there was a set of enthusiastic knocks on her door.
She let out a sigh, dragging herself up from the table and to her house door, unlocking the chain agonisingly slow and waiting a moment longer before finally opening it. Like she thought, there stood the Doctor bright eyed and bushy tailed as ever. Yaz couldn't help smile fondly at the look on her loves face, a mix of an awkward 'i need a favour' smile, and an apologetic puppy dog face. However much she adored the doctor and her gorgeous face, she couldn't wipe the tired and frustrated look off her own.
"Good Morning my beautiful, bubbly brilliant Yaz!" The blonde chirped, reaching forward and gently kissing Yaz's cheek and letting her hands rest on her shoulders. The Khan sighed out of her nose, knowing how stupid and flustered she must've looked whilst trying to remain annoyed at her girlfriend for her sudden appearance. But how could she resist kissing that cute button nose of hers?
She wrapped her arms around the doctor and spun her around, resting her chin on her head and breathing in her scent. She felt her nuzzle her face into the crook of her neck and relax, connecting the two like puzzle pieces. Yaz pulled back quicker than she meant to, remembering how late for work she was just 5 minutes ago and jumping to panic. "It's nice to see you doctor, really it is, but can I politely ask what you want? I'm seriously late for work."
The doctor cocked her eyebrows innocently, glancing to both sides like she'd been asked an impossible question. "Didn't you get my text?" She asked, pulling her phone out of her coat pocket and waving it slightly as if to remind her girlfriend what a phone looked like. Yaz nodded and rolled her eyes. "Yeah like half a second before you showed up! I've got duty today, I really can't miss it." She gave her arm a sorry rub as her face visibly fell.
The doctor swayed on her heels, and Yaz could tell she knew she'd be getting that answer. Even someone as occasionally thoughtless as the doctor knew a last minute text just wouldn't cut these type of plans. She gave a small nod and sighed, only then giving Yaz a chance to look her up and down. She noticed a familiar looking white hoodie dawned under the doctors normal coat, left unzipped and small embroidered Nike logo slightly showing.
She lowered her brow at the brown coffee stain on one of the oversized sleeves hanging slightly over her hands, one she could've sworn she remembered making on her own white hoodie just a few weeks ago. She thought back and tried to remember the last time she actually saw her own white hoodie, only to grin when the memories of her and the doctor spending the night together a few nights back flashed in her mind. It was definitely an enjoyable night.
She cupped the doctors face and pressed their lips together before leaning her forehead against hers. "Is that mine?" She giggled, blushing as their finger interlocked and pulled them even closer. The blonde chuckled softly and lent her head into the hoodie hood, biting at the drawstring. "You left it the other day, promise I've been meaning to give it back." She looked away guiltily and Yaz let out a laugh and nodded sarcastically.
"It's fine you keep it, suits you." She zipped it up for her and left her hands under her chin, locking their eyes fondly and kissing again. It was moments like these the couple lived for. Yaz grunted as she noticed the time on her watch, pulling away from her lover and giving her an apologetic look. The blonde looked a bit disappointed, but gestured inside the Tardis parked just outside.
"I'll give you a lift to work, the aliens can wait I'm sure." They both grinned and slipped their hands together, Yaz pulling the door shut behind her and following the doctor down the road. "But I'll pick you up, and then we'll definitely have some things to sort out." She ended her sentence with a wink which sent Yaz's feelings blushing, her stomach rushing with butterflies and her face turning 50 shades redder.
Little did she know that the doctor was talking about aliens and an explosive planet to deal with later, rather than a nice night in together- not that she'd expect or want anything less. God she adored that time-lord.
