Chapter 16: Move on

After waiting in that basement for what felt like hours, JC and my brother both sent people from their teams to search the area to see if it was safe. Once they gave us the all clear we all piled out of the basement and out of hte house and onto the street.

"Thanks for the cooperation last night." JC says holding his hand out to Kian. He shakes it and both the gangs go their seperate ways. Gilinsky walks beside me as commanded by my brother. I roll my eyes as my brother is obvious to my feelings towards to Gilinsky at this moment. Honestly i don't want to be around him after what he said last night. I glance ahead and see Kian and Chris walking in the lead talking. I decide to take a chance and race ahead.

"Kenzie get back here!" Gilinsky calls out. I ignore him and race up to Chris and take his hand. He glances at me shocked and then he relaxes.

"Hey Kenzie." he grins. I smile back. Maybe Chris isn't so bad now.

"Why are you not with Gilinsky?" Kian asks forwning. I shrug.

"Kenzie! I told you to get back here!" Gilinsky says slowing down beside me.

"I'm fine. Chris is just as capable of protecting me as you are." I say glancing at Gilinsky to see him glaring daggers at Chris who just shrugs.

"It isn't his job." Gilinsky says grabbing my hand pulling me away from Chris, who stops walking and gives Gilinsky a death stare. Here we go.

"Not cool bro." Chris says.

"What are you gonna do about it, huh?" Gilinsky and Chris get in each other's faces. The entire gang stops walking and stares at the fight about to break out, over me.

"You think that just because you are new here, you get a free pass on banging Kian's sister." Chris says. Who said anything about banging me!?

"I never said anything about banging her! I would never disrespect Kenzie, unlike you." Gilinsky says.

"I never disrespected her." Chris narrows his eyes. So almost raping me in an alleyway isn't disrespecting me. I changed my mind about this kid.

"You tried to rape her the other day." Gilinsky's eyes narrow dangerously and his voice drops.

"I didn't do that! Kian is my best friend! I would never touch his little sister like that!" Chris' voice drops low. Yeah keep lying!

"You may be trying to save yourself, but eventually Kian will find out the truth." Gilinsky's fists clench.

"And when he does he'll find out how you feel about his sister." Chris' fists clench also. What!? I look at Gilinsky to see his jaw lock.

"What is going on here?" I hear Kian say. did he just now realize no one was following him anymore? Great leadership skills bro.

"Gilinsky and i were having a discussion." Chris says glancing at Kian.

"Well there's time for that later. Lets go." Kian's commanding voice gets everyone moving, everyone but Chris and Gilinsky.

"Just stay away from Kenzie." Gilinsky warns.

"Careful Gilinsky, Kian might find out your secret." Chris smirks and turns to walk after my brother, but not before adding "And don't worry. After i tell Kian how i feel about her, She'll be my girlfriend." My eyes go wide and Gilinsky lets out a growl. He starts to march after him but I grab his arm.

"Let him go." I softly say. I don't need them fighting over me. Gilinsky stands there watching chris jog to catch up with Kian. His chest is puffed out and he's standing to his full height. I feel his arm muscles twitch underneath my hand. Despite his hurtful words, the boy looks extremely attractive right now. But does he have feelings for me like Chris said?

"Kenzie." Gilinsky says turning his head to look at me.

"Yeah?" I ask slowly letting go of his arm.

"No matter what happens promise me you were mine first." He says. I look at him confused. His first? How could I be his first?

"Gilinsky, what ar-"

"Just promise!" He says interrupting.

"I promise." I say. He gives me a small smile and they motions for me to start walking again. We walk in silence all the way back to the house. By the time we get there, Kian has everyone putting the house back to normal.

"Where have you two been?" Kian asks.

"Walking and talking." Gilinsky says.

"Go help the others." My brother commands. Gilinsky nods and goes to help Crawford with something. "Kenzie we need to talk." He motions towards the kitchen. I enter the kitchen and sit down at the island.

"Yes?" I ask as he leans against the counter.

"Do you like Gilinsky?" He asks.

"Uh what?" I ask shocked that Kian care about my feelings.

"Simples question Kenzie....because chris asked my permission to date you and he's a loyal best friend. And I know he would never hurt you." Kian runs his hand though his hair. If only he knew how much he was eating his words.

"I don't like Chris like that..."I trail off remembering Gilinsky promise that I was his first.

"Well i think that maybe you should give Chris a chance." Kian sighs.

"No. You can't force me to date your best friend!" I stand up walking out of the kitchen straight into Chris.

"Hello babe." he winks at me.

"I am not your babe!" I shove him and walk away to find GIlinsky to ask if he honestly did like me.

"Kenzie." I feel Chris grab my arm.

"Let go!" I cry out hitting him with my free hand. He winces but keeps his hold and grabs my other arm.

"Kenzie listen to me.* he says.

"No! I will not date you! so just let me go!" I plead struggling.

"Why? Because i'm not Gilinsky?" he scoffs

"Because you are a fucking prick!" I spit in his face. He gets an angry look and the next thing i know i'm flying towards the floor. I land in strong arms instead and hear a growl coming from whoever caught me. I look up and see Gilinsky growling and Crawford is standing next to him with his eyes narrow.

"Wow Chris." Crawford says.

"You would take her side." Chris shoots back.

"You hit Kian's sister!" Crawford crosses his arms.

"She honestly deserved it." Chris shrugs.Before Crawford can say anything, my brother and Connor walk into the room.

"What is going on here?" Kian asks.

"Kenzie fell and we were making sure she was alright." Chris quickly says. I hear Gilinsky let out a low growl.

"Are you alright Kenzie?" Kian looks at me. I could tlel him the truth but he would never believe me, Gilinsky and Crawford. If anything he'd ground me. Fire Gilinsky and tell Crawford to stay away from me forever. If i lost Crawford and Gilinsky i dont' know what i would do.

"Yeah." I nod.

"Chris we need your help on patrol." Kian says before turning and walking away with Chris and Connor in tow.

"Are you alright?: Gilinsky softly asks his brown eyes looking into my blue eyes.

"I think so..." I say. We stare into each others eyes until Crawford clears his throat. I shake my head and carefully stand up.

"Kenzie, i'm sorry about my brother." Crawford apologizes. I shake my head.

"Its alright." I give him a small smile. I then turn to Gilinsky.

"We need to talk." I say.

He nods.
