Chapter 21: Danger close

"I still can't believe you shot your sister." I hear Crawford say.

"I can't believe Hayes didn't save her since he loves her so much." Gilinsky mumbles.

"Shut up before i shoot you!" Kian says.

"I don't love her...." Hayes mumbles. I slowly open my eyes to see i'm in the hospital. I feel someone's hand in mine. I glance to my right to see Hayes holding my hand looking really upset. Aww, poor Hayes. I see Gilinsky on his phone leaning against the wall. Kian is standing next to Gilinsky texting someone. Crawford is quietly talking to Stephanie in the corner.

"Spill the truth Hayes." Kian sighs looking at Hayes.

"What truth!? It's the truth! Kenzie and i are dating!" Hayes insists.Gilinsky looks about ready to either throw up or punch a hole in someone's head.

"You realize i get to kill you right?" Kian asks.

"Yes sir." Hayes sighs running his free hand through his hair. I realize i should probably save him.

"hey, no killing my boyfriend." I croak out. Everyone turns to look at me.

"Kenzie!" Hayes smiles.

"Oh thank god." Gilinsky says.

"Are you okay sissy?" Kian asks.

"Kenzie, i'm so sorry i didn't save you." Crawford says.

"I'm fine...just sore. And Crawford it's alright." I give him a small smile which he returns.

"You should be sore. Your brother shot you in the side." GIlinsky shakes his head. He looks angry with himself. Probably for letting me get shot.

"Can i get a moment alone with Gilinsky." I ask.  Crawford and Stephanie are the first to leave. Hayes kisses my forhead before leaving hesistantly. Kian gives me a weird look before reaussing me he'll be in the hallway. They leave quietly shutting the door behind them.

"Gilinsky look at me." I softly say. He avoids my eyes.

"Kenzie, i let you get hurt. I can't forgive myself right now." He softly mumbles.

"Hey," I reach out and grab his hand. He looks at me. "it's alright. I'm alive."

"I should have just told Kian the truth!" he messes with his hair.

"What truth?" i ask confused.

"That i like you and want to be with you." he sighs.

"Aww Gilinsky it's alright. At least Kian is slightly comfortable with me dating." I smile.

"How is this alright Kenzie? You are fake dating Hayes!" he lets go of my hand. I frown at the coldness where the warmth once was.

"Hayes and i will figure this out i promise." I say wishing he would take my hand again.

"And what if you don't Kenzie?" he sks hurt filling his eyes. Is he upset that Hayes tried to save his ass."What if you are stuck dating Hayes and then you actually fall in love with him or something!"

"Jack, calm down. I'm not going to fall in love with Hayes!" I argue.

"You dont' know that Kenzie! You are the closest i've come to happiness in a while. I don't want to lose it." he says taking my hand again.

"Same here..." I smile at him. He leans down and is about to kiss me when the door opens. Gilinsky jumps away from me I look up to see Hayes walk back in.

"Sorry to interrupt but Kian needs you Gilinasky." Hayes looks uncomfortable.

"I'll be back." he kisses my forhead and turns to Hayes. "Watch her closely if you value your life." Hayes nods and Gilinsky leaves.
