Chapter 17: Things Change Again

We decide to talk in my room. He closes my door behind him as I sit cross legged on my bed. He is quick to join me. He sits down across from me. We stare at each other for what feels like a long time.

"Kenzie, what did you want to talk about it?" He asks staring at me.

"The fight between you and Chris today." I slowly say.

"Oh..what about it?" He asks nervously playing with his bandana that his tied around his arm where his wound is, instead of its uaual place around his head.

"He said you have feelings for me...."I watch him as he blushes and looks down.

"I..uh...do." He says slowly looking at me.

"You do?" I ask shocked. This could mean everything changes.

"Yeah, but it could never work." He says softly.

"Yeah..."I sigh thinking about my brother.

"Your brother would kill me" he says leaning towards me. Is he going to kiss me?

"He would never forgive me if he caught us being close like this." He stops inches from my lips. He looks from my lips too my eyes as if asking fi permission.

"Kians got a temper," I agree wishinhe would kiss me already. He bites his lip nervously.

"Jack, its alright." I say using his first name. And that's all it takes for his lips to come crashing down on mine. I feel butterflies like its the first time we are kissing all over again. I feel his tongue pick my bottom lip begging for entrance, which I grant him. Before anything can get too heated, we hear a knock at the door. Gilinsky jumps off the bed.

"Yes?" I ask trying to compose myself.

"Its me Kian" I hear my brother say. Gilinsky silently curses and quickly stands by the door assuming his bodyguard position.

"Come in," I say. Kian opens the door.

"Kenzie, I wanted to.." He notices gilinsky standing by my door on his phone. "Jack." He nods.

"Kian." Gilinsky nods back. Kian walks over and sits down on the bed where gilinsky once was. His back to gilinsky.

"What did you want?" I ask.

"I wanted to talk about you not wanting to date Chris." Gilinsky's head shoots up from his phone.

"I'm not dating him!" I sigh,

"Why not! He is a good guy kenzie!" Kian insists. Dear brother how wrong you are.

"I just...." I search my brain for an excuse other than the obvious he's a creep, "there's someone else I like." Gilinsky's eyes go wide.

"Do I know him?"kian asks.

"No." I shake my head. Gilinsky looks about ready to jump out the wundow.

"Then how do you know him?"nkian persists.

"I go to school with him," not a total lie! Gilinsky will be going to my school when summer ends.

"OK...I want to meet him though." Kian says getting up. I nod as he walks over to the door.

"Keep an eye on her please." Kian says to gilinsky.

"Don't worry I won't let her out of my sight." Gilinsky salutes my brother, who leaves and shuts my door behind him?p. Gilinsky locks the door and sits down next to me.

"So another guy huh?" He says putting his arm around my shoulders.

"Oh shut up," I say pushing his arm off my shoulders.

"What? Can't I hold my girl?" He looks offended.

"I'm not your girl. Plus you haven't even taken me on a date yet." I say looking at him.

"How about tonight." I look at him like he's nuts.

"Tonight? Gilinsky someone tried to kill me, my brother and His gang last night and you want to take me out at the risk of me dying!?"

"Hey, I did a good job protecting you last night,"

"Yeah with the help of Matt and your sister." I scoff.

"Don't mention that prick around me." Gilinsky growls.

"Hey! That prick is my best friend! So deal with it!" I say crossing my arms.

"Ugh! Why did I pick the one girl who makes everything complicated?" He asks rubbing his hands over his face.

"I'm sorry! Look at who my brother is jack! Nothing about my life is simple!" I say getting off my bed and walking over to my window. "I'm sorry its too complicated for you." I feel tears forming in my eyes so I turn towards the window where he can't see them.

"No! Kenzie, I didn't mean it like that." I hear him get off the bed and then feel his strong arms around me. "Kenzie I'm sorry."

I turn around in his arms and look up at him. "I know I'm the gang leaders sister but I hate that everyone treats me so...."

"Defenseless?" Gilinsky offers. I nod. He gently wipes away my tears.

"Kenzie, I'm going to be protective if you whether you like it or not cause its my job....and I care about you. Alright?" He gently strokes my cheek with his thumb. I nod and he leans down giving me a gentle kiss.

"So about that date..." He says pulling away.

"Jack." I sigh, I'm not going out because I don't want anything to happen. Plus what would I tell my brother?

"We can stay in and watch movies. Its fine." He smiles softly. I smile up at him. Maybe things were looking up after all.
