-------------------------------------------
Maya's POV:My life has been going great so far. The Matthews and my friends have been there to help and support me, I couldn't be more thankful.
Speaking of thankful, Thanksgiving was just around the corner. The Matthews invited me for Thanksgiving dinner. I asked my mom and it turns out she was working that night, so I decided to accept.
After school I decided to go to the library to spend some alone time, which I haven't had too much of since Riley always wanted to hang out with me.
I loved the library since it was always so quiet and calm. I usually go there to draw, sometimes even to sleep. I brought my colored pencils and sketch pad with me. I opened the library door carefully. I didn't want the librarian to notice me and try to start conversation.
After a few minutes of looking at the beautiful night sky and drawing, my phone beeped.
Riley: where u at???
I replied "somewhere quiet,"
I continued to draw until I heard my phone beep again. Sigh.Riley: where? U ok?
"Yes I'm ok, now byee!" I texted back. Damn that girl is overprotective.
Riley: come to my house after! Bye 😊
I went back to drawing again, I was drawing a cute little island and sunset. After a few more minutes, I heard the door open. I didn't bother looking up from my drawing. A very familiar voice greeted the librarian in the nicest way possible. Lucas.
"Maya? What're you doin' here so late?" Lucas asks, surprise to see me here.
"I'd ask you the same thing, cowboy,"
"I'm just here to read a few books and clear my mind,"
"Same, except you know, I'm drawing instead of reading," we laughed.
"Can I see what you're drawin'?" Lucas asks.
"Sure," I turn my sketch pad around so he could see.
"Wow, that's really beautiful,"
"Thanks," I smile.
-------------------------------------------
Lucas' POV:It was beautiful. She was beautiful.
"Just like you," I added. Oh shit, did I seriously just say that? I see her blushing.
"Thanks Bucky McBoing-Boing!" She winks. "Have you noticed how pretty the sky looks?" She sighs.
"I sure have, it looks even prettier in Texas. There's no city lights or anything to cover up the real sky," I explain as I looked out the window.
"But the city lights are beautiful themselves, all the different colors and bright lights, I'm in love with this city,"
We kept getting closer and closer to each other, until our knees and shoulders were actually touching.
"It was really fun talking to you Lucas, we should do it again sometime," Maya chirps.
"You called me Lucas,"
"It is your name isn't it?"
"I know it's just that I've never heard you say it before," We naturally started leaning in. Our lips barely touched until Maya's eyes widen and quickly pulls away.
"I've gotta go! See you at school next week!" She yells as she makes it out the door. I frown.
--------------------------------------------
Maya's POV:How could I do that to Riley? I wouldn't want to betray her in any way. I knew Riley had a huge crush on him. I was so lucky to pull away in time. I start running with my sketch pad and pencils to Riley's apartment.
I climb up the fire escape and knock on Riley's window. Nothing. I look around the room to see if she's there. Still nothing. I decide to check if the window was open. I pull up on it and it quickly opens. I climb into her bedroom and creep down the stairs.
I see her and her family all on the couch watching TV. I crept behind the couch.
"You should really keep your windows locked, or else a creepy 12 year old blonde girl will sneak in and rob you all," I say in a deep voice.
"MAYA!" Riley and Auggie yell.
"So did I scare ya guys or what?"
"Yes you scared us! Now how does that benefit you in any way?" Topanga demands.
"Well you see, it makes me happy and it makes me laugh, which is very healthy for a human," I state.
"Well then, carry on," Topanga says in her lawyer voice.
"So are you joining us for Thanksgiving diner or what?" Mr. Matthews asks.
"Oh I forgot to tell you, yes she is!" Riley says.
"Yay!" Auggie giggles. He was adorable. Riley and I started tickling him.
After a few more fun moments, Riley and I went up to her room.
"I really need to get to sleep," Riley yawns.
"Alright, right after I tell you about what happened at the library!"
"So you were at the library! Aha!" Riley exclaims.
"Yeah yeah whatever," I shake off. "Lucas was there too, we started talking and well, he leaned in to kiss me-"
"What?!" Riley's face looked beaten.
"No no no, don't worry! I backed away before out lips could touch, and I left right after,"
"He tried to... Kiss you?" Riley whimpered.
"Yeah, I'm sorry Riles," I say sympathetically.
"You swear nothing happened though?"
"I swear! All we did was talk," I said raising my hand.
"Ok good," She hugged me and wished me a goodnight. I went out the window and started walking to my house.
I laid in my bed and thought about the fun moments the Matthews and I had. I truly felt like part of the family. I started drifting off happily to sleep.
