"NOPE, I'm alright mom, seriously!" I called from the trunk of the car where I was grabbing my 2 suitcases, black leather backpack on my shoulders.

I shut the trunk and went over to the driver's side of the car, crouching down to see inside and look at my mother. My mother who was insisting on helping me carry my bags to my temporary dorm room, which, obviously, I was not going to let happen. I could take care of it on my own and besides, I knew that if my mother came with, it would be hard to get rid of her. She wouldn't want to leave. She would want to stay for the first sorority event, the stands on the quad with information about each sorority. And I'm being serious, she would have stayed if I let her get out of the car.

So no. She was not getting out of the car on my watch.

"Are you sure? I could just–"

"Nope, I'm sure," I cut her off. It might seem harsh, but it was necessary. Believe me.

College was supposed to mean freedom, and freedom surely did not mean accidentally sharing a dorm room with your mother.

She frowned and sighed. "Fine, fine. But send pictures of your dorm and the events and the house! Especially the house! I would love to see if it looks like I remember it!"

I'd heard the same thing a billion times.

"I promise," I said, smiling. "Pictures, updates, everything."

My mom smiled and nodded. "Okay, okay. Fine, leave me then." She shooed me away and I shot her one last smile before turning around to head towards the temporary dorms.

It might seem weird that I didn't hug her goodbye, but that was just my relationship with my mother. Not a big deal, we just didn't need to hug goodbye.

And like I said, she wasn't allowed to leave her car.

I rolled my suitcases for a 5-minute walk to the temporary dorms for rushing sorority girls. I knew literally nothing about my temporary roommate, but it couldn't be that bad, really. I only had to spend a week in the temporary dorms before moving into the sorority house.

I didn't want to be in a sorority at all. But my mother would legit disown me if I didn't join, I was sure of it. Not like I wasn't an adult capable of making my own decisions, but if I eventually wanted to take over the family business, I'd need to be on the good sides of not just my dad, but my mother.

I finally reached the dorms and went up to this desk to get my room key for a room on the first floor. Aka the worst floor.

Regardless, I rolled my bags to the room at the end of the hall, Room 116. Sliding my key into the lock, I opened the door and shoved my way in, finding a blonde girl who was literally gorgeous and probably the definition of perfection sitting on one of the bare twin-sized beds. And all that was in the room were the two beds, a tiny window facing out to the quad, and a mini-fridge. And I mean a mini mini-fridge.
