33| So Much For Going Unnoticed...
ONCE I escaped from a business-heavy conversation with my dad, the first thing I did was search for Ava. And I found her in the backyard garden. She was standing in front of one of our yard's water features when I walked over and stood by her side, then gently nudged her arm.
"Wanna ditch?"
Ava looked up at me and raised her eyebrows. "Ditch the party that's the whole reason we're in New York City?"
I shrugged. "I've done my part. Now, I just want to spend time with you. And I have just the place. That is, if you're willing to oblige."
Ava smiled and looked back at the fountain in front of us. "I'm willing," she told me. "As long as you promise me one thing."
"Anything."
Ava spun around and stood in front of me, looking up into my eyes. When I'd first seen her in the frat house in that dress, it had been impossible to look away. And the entire cab right I spent sneaking glances at her. She looked amazing. Radiant. Her skin was glowing and with her hair pulled back, I could see the deepness of her brown eyes even more.
"You'll tell me why you seemed so bothered when your dad pulled you away for business talk," she said and I groaned. But then I felt her hand brush mine. "Promise?"
She held up her pinky and I smirked. "I thought pinky promises were for 5-year-olds."
"And I thought you wanted to ditch."
I grinned. "Touche," I said, lifting my own finger up and circling it with hers. "Promise. Let's get out of here."
"And will you tell me where exactly we're running off to?" she asked.
"Not a chance," I said, then pulled out my phone. "Though, I do have to make one quick call."
It wasn't hard to sneak out of the party considering the house was huge and the perimeter of the house was even larger. All we had to do was walk around the back garden and to the front yard where we waited for a cab to come and pick us up. It didn't take long before we were both in the car and ditching my family's party.
It's not like I didn't love my family. And truth be told, I was fine with parties. Though, the business-type parties weren't exactly my forte. I didn't like talking business principles with men who worked with my family or clients of the business. And I wanted to spend time with Ava rather than focus on all of that, anyway. So I had just the place where we would get to spend time together. Completely uninterrupted. No distractions.
When we finally pulled up to the spot, I pulled off my jacket and threw it over Ava's head.
"Theo, what the hell?"
I quickly got out of the car and made my way over to her side, opening her door. She took my jacket off her head and glared at me while I chuckled and grabbed her hand to help her out of the car. And as fast as I could, I covered my hands over her eyes.
