"YOU'RE chipper," Theo said when he opened the door and I pretty much bounced into the Lambda Xi house.
"Yep!" I said, spinning around to face him. "It's because I'm making the best of this. My mother doesn't want me home for Thanksgiving because she's annoying and petty and still mad at me? Forget about it! I'm just glad we found an alternative that's a thousand times better."
Yeah, so. My mother was still pissed at me about the Theodore Montgomery III situation. Even though he'd just met my dad and my dad actually loved him (he said so the next day over text, and it made me so happy that Skylar wanted to smack me upside the head), my mother was still insistent on hating him because "he's a Montgomery" and "we can't trust them" and blah, blah, blah. She basically hated me and thought that Will was a saint.
So I had to find other Thanksgiving plans and although Theo was originally planning on going home, after he talked to his parents they insisted he should spend at least one Thanksgiving weekend in solidarity with his friends. Skylar and Maverick agreed to tag along, except Skylar said only as long as we invited Hannah, which we did and now she was coming, too. Since Skylar was still insisting on flirting with her as she hadn't yet asked for that first date. Theo asked Matteo to come, but he was hesitant, apparently because therapy had him down in the dumps. When I said Will would tag along, that was when Matteo jumped on board (even though it took a lot of convincing on my part to get my dad to agree). And, of course, Nic was coming ("How could I refuse?" was what he said over the phone).
My family had a vacation home in Lake George, New York, just over 2 hours from Syracuse. And that, undoubtedly, was where our group Thanksgiving festivity was going to happen. The house was huge, so it would fit everyone just fine. The dining room table had room for at least 10, so it would be perfect. We just had to figure out how to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal when most of us didn't exactly know how to cook in the first place.
"And we have to hit the road in just a few hours. Where's Will? Thought he'd be with you. Or Skylar?" Theo asked.
"Skylar is helping Hannah last-minute pack some stuff. Her conquest is never-ceasing. And Will is meeting us at the house in Lake George. He said it was easier that way," I told him, reaching forward to ruffle his hair.
Theo grabbed ahold of my wrist and pulled me into him, his lips brushing mine. "I'm chipper, too," he said and then pulled away, steering off into the kitchen. I followed him and he was in the middle of packing a cooler with Maverick.
"Hey, Ava!" Maverick said, grinning at me as he put water bottles into the cooler. "Wow, I love that top."
"Thanks, Mav," I said with a laugh. "What's the use for the cooler? It's cold outside and it's only a 2-hour drive."
Matteo suddenly appeared and snorted. He hopped up on the kitchen counter ungracefully. "Ask Theo. His mommy suggested the cooler idea and he is a mama's boy."
