46| My Favorite Newbie in the History of Newbies
SKYLAR, despite being a joking bitch all of the time, admitted she was happy for me and said that I made Theo at least 10 times easier and more tolerable to be around. You know, I could get behind that one.
The mall wasn't super crowded this Saturday, which made it pretty nice for today's adventure. And today's adventure was actually a part of Skylar's plan:
"You want to seduce Hannah?" I asked last night when I got back from Theo's.
"Yes. The art of seduction is kind of my thing," Skylar said, flipping her newly dyed hair. I'd been gone for a little more than 4 hours at Theo's last night and when I returned, Skylar had made plans for both of us to go to the mall with Hannah and she'd dyed her hair black. It was definitely a change, but I was convinced Skylar was one of those people who could just pull off any hair color. Maverick included, honestly.
Anyway, that's how I ended up being roped along to the mall with Skylar and Hannah this Saturday at noon. I didn't know Hannah super well after our one week rooming together, but I knew she was pretty nice, she's from California, she's probably straight, and Skylar has a thick crush on her.
The goal for today was for Skylar to get to know Hannah better and discreetly keep flirting with her. It was obvious that Skylar was into girls and Hannah knew that, but Skylar didn't want to be too clear that she was pining after Hannah. Neither of us even knew if Hannah was single or not. We (mainly Skylar) were just hoping that since she had just moved to New York and despite the first semester being close to over in a month, maybe Hannah hadn't found the time to pick up a new significant other, or she didn't have a long-distance one from back home.
But of course, Skylar was hoping we would figure all of that out today.
"Okay," Hannah said as we were browsing candles in Bath and Body Works, "I need to know each of your favorite scents so I can judge you for it. Because the superior scent is so obvious."
"And the superior scent is...?" I asked.
"Can't give any hints or you'll cheat!" Hannah exclaimed and shrugged. "I don't make the rules. Sky?"
"No question," Skylar said, twisting to grab a candle and lifting off the lid in Hannah's direction, "champagne toast."
Hannah smelled the candle and raised her eyebrows at Skylar as she pulled the candle away. "Champagne toast. Classy," Hannah said. "I love it."
"Girls usually do," Skylar said, and Hannah smiled but looked over at me.
"And yours?"
I shrugged and pointed at one. "I don't know, maybe that one."
"Im sorry, but cucumber lily? You just picked the singular most boring scent in a store full of miraculous scents," Hannah said. "Try pumpkin pecan waffles. That's how you know you're in heaven."
