35| Want S'more?
"WHAT'S the point of this, anyway?" I asked, carrying a heavy box of string lights into the large community room of the Alpha Chi apartment building. I grunted as I set the box down on a table and opened it up. "I mean, it's a Wednesday night. We go on Fall break in 2 days. Why bother having a sudden party? I still have class tomorrow!"
"Oh, shut your pie hole," Skylar said and I glared at her. "It's a tradition or whatever, don't ask me. There's always a party the week before Fall break and Chloe just decided Wednesday night was what she wanted to do. And no one cares if you have class tomorrow. It's a party and we're throwing it, which means you're obligated to show up and be my DD."
"We live right upstairs," I said, "I don't need to be your designated driver."
"Then you have to be my DEBTTR," Skylar said. "Designated escort back to the room." She smirked and I rolled my eyes.
I gestured towards the box. "Are you even going to help me with all of these lights, or are you just going to let me do all the work?"
Skylar rolled her eyes and started to help me. We took out the lights and started untangling them. They were all twisted together in one insane mess. Worse than when earbuds got tangled together – and that was saying something.
"Ladies!" It was Chloe's voice. Skylar and I shared a mutual look of distaste before turning around right as Chloe walked into the community room with Rainbow at her side. Pretty much every girl from Alpha Chi was here helping set up. Everyone that didn't have class, of course. Though, most girls were skipping classes to help out considering the course load before the break wasn't extremely heavy for most people.
"You know," Skylar said to me quietly while Chloe rambled on about the party tonight and making it perfect, "Chloe hasn't stopped obsessing over Theo. And she, along with everyone else, has no idea that you two have kissed more than once."
"And your point is?"
"Chloe is literally crazy for Theo. She probably can't wait to see him tonight," Skylar said. "She's gonna walk up to him and start twirling her hair and calling him cutesy names and flirting galore. All while you just stand there drinking your nonalcoholic punch getting all jealous and worked up."
I elbowed her. "First of all, shut up," I said and she laughed. "Second of all, you're wrong. It's not like Theo and I are together."
"Yeah, but it's also not like you guys aren't together," Skylar argued. "I know you're not dating or whatever, but you've kissed. More than once. You like each other, you spend a shitload of time together, and he writes you fricken love letters. He wrote you one today, yeah? What was it this time... Another tale of star-crossed lovers?"
I elbowed her yet again. "None of your business."
She rubbed her arm where I had now elbowed it twice. "See, and you're getting all defensive over it. You'll see that I'm one hundred percent right when you get insanely jealous tonight if Chloe gets all up in his business."
