❝ i really care for her well being. ❞
I FELT A bit of warmth and light on my eyelids. My eyelids fluttered open, adjusting to the light. The light was so bright that I slowly shut my eyes again, then groaning a bit, in pain.
"Oh guys, I think she's awake." A soft voice said next to me. What happened? That's when all my memories came flooding back. I opened my eyes again, finally adjusting to the brightness of the sun shine through the window.
"Hey, Ellie. How are you feeling?" The same soft voice asked. Turning my head, I saw Ponyboy sitting next to the couch.
"It hurts, my face and my arms." I whined, checking my arms and my hands. I had a few bandaids on my hands and some bandages on my arms. I tried touching my face and where my mom punched me, but it hurt so much that I flinched at my own touch.
"It's okay Ellie, don't touch where you got injured. How'd you get this hurt, did someone do this to you?" He asked once again, having a hint of concern in his voice this time.
"I-I, can I explain to you later please?" I said quietly, my voice quivering. That was one of the most traumatic experiences ever.
"Of course, Ellie. Take it easy today please, okay?" He responded, he was so cute when he cared. I nodded as a response and smiled at him.
P O N Y B O Y
I was almost terrified last night when I saw Ellie, walking into our house and falling to the floor. She looked so fragile already, so it didn't help that she had deep cuts on her arms, scratches on her hands, and a black eye.
I ended up going to school today, but thankfully she didn't wake up when nobody was home. It's a Friday, thankfully.
The gang didn't really have any plans, except I know they were just heading to Buck's to "let loose" as Two-bit would say. Of course, Johnny and I wouldn't be going. We didn't really like drinking anyway, and parties for that matter.
"What time are you guys leaving for Buck's?" I ask, walking over to the kitchen and leaning on the doorframe.
"Well, it's about 4:09 right now, so probably around 6:00? We're not going straight to Buck's so we're leaving a bit earlier." Darry said, thinking. I was real glad Darry was going, he hasn't had a day off since I can remember. He also doesn't have that much fun, I haven't seen him do a full smile since god knows when.
I decided to pass some free time by reading, I decided to read out loud to Ellie, since she was laying down the whole time. I took out my favorite book that Johnny got me, Gone with the Wind. I told Johnny to come sit by me as well, so that he could hear too.
"Some lay stiff and still, but many withered in the hot sun. Everywhere, swarms of flies hovered over the men, crawling and buzzing in their faces."
"Man, that's gross." Johnny commented. I grinned, and heard Ellie giggle at Johnny's little comment. I continued to read until Ellie fell asleep again. She looked so peaceful, that I told everyone to be a little more quiet so that we wouldn't disturb her.
When about 6:15 pm rolled around, the rest of the gang were walking towards the door to leave.
"Alright Johnny, Ponyboy, and El, we're leaving. No matter how late we get back, don't leave the house, ya hear me?" Darry said loud and clear.
"Yeah yeah, Darry." I mumbled at him.
"Alright, let's go!" And with that, they all left the house. I sighed, finally left with silence. I checked a clock near the kitchen, stained with some residue of egg that one time Two-bit sent them flying.
"Hey, it's 6:17, sunset time!" I cheerfully said. I turned to face Ellie and Johnny.
"I think I'm gonna take a nap, man." Johnny mumbled, drowsily. I nodded at him and looked at Ellie, with a bit of puppy eyes.
"I'll go with you, Ponyboy." She said while giggling at my puppy eyes. I smiled, then waited for her to get up. She stood up, then closed her eyes and paused, looking as if she was steadying herself.
"You okay, Ellie?" I asked, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah, sorry. Just got up a little too fast." she said, walking with me to my backyard. We sat on the swinging chair we had in my backyard.
"So, is it okay if you tell me what happened?" I asked quietly, almost mumbling. Ellie took a deep breath then nodded. She explained how her dad left and died, and how her mom used to be an alcoholic and is getting back into her habits. I couldn't see my own face, but I could feel the worry wash over my expression. I looked at her face and I could see a small tear roll down her cheek.
"Awe, come here Ellie, it's gonna be alright." I hugged her tightly, and I could hear her gently sniffle. I really care for her well being, and I was glad I could be there as the shoulder that she could cry on.

"Sorry, Ponyboy. I got some tears on your shirt." I sniffled while looking down.
"Don't apologize, it's nothing. Sometimes it's good to let it out, Ellie." He replied, smiling at me. I smiled back, genuinely. Him calling me Ellie just brightened my mood instantly.
We watched the sunset as it went down, and the moon and stars come out. I started feeling drowsy, so I leaned on Ponyboy's shoulder. As I drifted into a state of sleep, I felt Ponyboy's arms wrap around me, picking me up, and carrying me back inside.
He set me down on, what I'm guessing is, his bed that he shared with Sodapop. I then felt the other side dip after a few minutes, as if another person laid down there. I wouldn't blame him if he was tired, he was up helping me at night, and watching after me.
I turned over, with the last bit of energy I had before falling asleep."Thank you, Ponyboy." I whispered, hoping he heard me. He turned to face me, and smiled at me.
"Anytime, Ellie. Anytime."
