Before this chapter begins, I made a slight mistake and said that Sofia's father is in jail. What I actually meant to write is that he is in PRISON. My bad, don't hate me :))))) XDDDD

Chapter Sixteen: Daddy Issues

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead"

I groaned at an overly enthusiastic Aunt Em.

Selena, Aidan and Aunt Em were all seated around the kitchen island. Aidan was scrolling through his Instagram feed with one hand and a spoonful of cereal in the other.

Aunt Em was on her phone, with a bright smile on her face, and Selena could barely sit down on her seat-

"I can't wait to see daddy! I'm so excited" she squealed as she bounced up and down on the chair.

Emily put her hand on Selena, in an attempt calm her down. "I'm sure you are, Lena. But try pipe down a bit. You don't want all that energy inside that small body of yours, to wear away before you can even get the chance to see your dad, again." Selena smiled at our aunt and said with a huge grin on her lips-

"I just can't wait to see him." She looked up from her bowl of cereal to glance at me. "Well, what are you just standing there for? Some of us have a dad to visit!"

I rolled my eyes.

From the minute I woke up this morning, my head hurt. I couldn't decide if it was because of how nervous I was about meeting my dad, or the fact that I kept replaying that message my mom had sent to me last night. Either way, my head hurt because I overthink way too freaking much.

I grabbed a bowl from the cupboard and took the carton of milk from the fridge.

"You nervous?" Aunt Em asked, as she put down her phone on the table to look at me.

I sighed, and poured fruit loops into the bowl and added in my milk. "Very. I just can't believe that I'm really going to see our dad, after such a long period of time. I mean, I can't help but think...what will he say when he sees us? How will he react? Will he be mad that we haven't payed him a visit for this long? Or will he be happy that at least we came?...I-I don't know how to feel about this...".

I put a spoon into my bowl, and walked to the kitchen island, sitting on the available place beside Aunt Em.

Emily put her hand on my hair and began to run her hands through, softly.

"I get that you're nervous about this, Sofia. But I know your father...he's a good man, and I'm almost one hundred percent sure that he will understand why you guys couldn't visit him. It's not your fault, darling. Trust me, the minute he sees his three angels, that old hag will forget what happened. Happiness will take over whatever anger he has inside of him...I know this from experience, Sofia."
