You know I'll fight my corner

After my blood is drowning in alcohol
No I just wanna hold ya..."***

Chapter Twenty Three: He's the moon and I was the night sky.
I walked and walked, until finally, I bumped into Kailani barely dancing with Zac.
"Elizabeth, right?" Kailani smiled, when she noticed me.
"Sofia," I corrected her. She let out a loud laugh, and broke from Zac's sloppy embrace-
"Shit! I'm really bad with names, forgive me. What's up?"
I shrugged. "Well my dance partner went all 'napoleon dynamite' on me, and I kinda hate Mason." Kailani chuckled.
"Yup, that's why nobody likes to have Gregg as a dance partner. One time, I made the mistake of bringing him as my seventh grade homecoming date."
Kailani walked away from a confused Zac, and approached me, locking her arm in mine. "I'll be your partner."
I smiled at her, pulling her into the center of the ballroom, where most of the dancing partners were-
"Thank god. Anything is better than being partners with Mason," my eyes drifted to where he stood awkwardly in one corner of the room, surrounded by teenage girls. I could only assume half of them were begging to be his partner.
How desperate.

"Hey, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
She shifted uncomfortably from her grip on my wrists, but shrugged it off discreetly. "Don't worry about it."
"Hey," I put my hand on her shoulder. "You can tell me...I'm here."
A loud sigh escaped her mouth, and she turned her head toward Mason's, then back to me. She bit her lip nervously-
"You should give him a chance, you know. He's not as bad as he wants himself to be, Sofia."
My eyebrows rose up. "Who, Mason?"
"Yes."
My eyes wandered to his direction. The girls had now gone, replaced with Gregg, Zac and Jeremy. He looked happy. I assumed because it was with the tiny reunion with his old plans from the states.
I turned back to Kailani. "Why do you say that? We kinda hate each other."
She shrugged, looking down at her black and white vans. "I don't know. I guess it's because I've known Mason for a long time, and my impression of him is different from yours? I mean, he hasn't always been this closed off...just give him a chance. I promise you, there's more to him than you think you know." A soft sigh escaped her lips-
