We're already on chapter thirty, wtf...**
Chapter Thirty: Shirtless, but cocky
I washed my glass of water and put it to dry on the dish rack. I woke up feeling thirsty during the night, so I tip-toed downstairs to grab a drink.
After I closed the kitchen door with great caution, I carefully walked up the stairs, to avoid waking anybody.
Just as I walked past Aunt Em's bedroom, I heard low voices speaking to each other. Without thinking, I pressed my ear to her bedroom door.
I knew eavesdropping was bad, but I couldn't help myself.
It seemed like she was on the phone with somebody. I leaned in further into the door, in attempt to get better hearing of her conversation.
"I swear to god Lucia, it was her...yeah, I don't know—I didn't say much to her I just..didn't care..what-"
Lucia? She was talking with my mom...
"No, it doesn't look like she's going to do anything about it...I know..nothing... doesn't need to know, for now..."
My eyebrows furrowed. I had no clue who Aunt Em was talking about, but the worry in her voice told me it was someone important. I could only pick up bits and pieces from her conversation with my mom, and when I did, it was hard to figure out what they were discussing.
Who doesn't need to know what? Why did she sound so shocked? What the hell was going on...
"Okay..please do, I can't, you know that. We'll see...fine...bye." I quickly removed my ear from the door when Aunt Em ended her call with my mom.
Still confused, I closed the door to my bedroom and called it a night...
******
"Shut up, shut up, shut up!" I yell at my alarm, as I frantically fished for my phone on the desk to turn it off.
I groaned, putting my hands on my hot forehead. I think I'm coming down with something.
A cough escaped my throat, followed by another, then another, then another until I began coughing in fits. "Aunt Em!", I called out to her, my throat dry.
My hands rubbed my sore throat, as I waited for my Aunt to walk into my bedroom. "What is it?", she asked, standing at the door.
"I think I'm coming down with something," I frowned. "I don't think I'll be able to go to school."
Aunt Em rolled her eyes. She walked away from the door and sat on my bed. Putting her hands on my forehead to check my temperature, she sighed.
"Would you look at that? Your foreheads boiling hot, and you don't look so good either," she tutted.
"But you're still going to school, now get up." Aunt Em got off the bed and made way towards the door.
I pouted. "But I'm sick!"
"I'll take you to the doctor after school, now get changed!" She ordered as she walked out.
