"what?" he asks shocked
"i was dying. I have cancer" I tell him trying not to cry anymore and I look away from him.
The whole room goes deadly silent.
I glance at everyone, my mom is being hugged by Oscar and my dad trying to stop Emily from crying.
The boys just stand there, completely in shock.
Especially Ryder.
But then Finn does the one thing i never expected him to do.
He walks up to me and pulls me into a hug.
"i'm sorry, i wanted to go i did" i say hugging him back
"no Holly, don't apologise for something you can't control" he says
I look back up at him, his green eyes are glazed over with tears.
oh my god. he's gonna cry.
"you guys, might want to sit down" i say
The rest of the boys sit down on the sofas in shock.
"When i was fourteen i was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia" i say
"Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is a type of cancer that affects white blood cells. It progresses quickly and aggressively and requires immediate treatment"
"it's rare but most common in young people. The cancer, it made me extremely vulnerable to life-threatening infections because i did not have enough healthy white blood cells to fight all of the infections out there.
"I however, was diagnosed late, which made me even more exposed to infections. That's why i couldn't go to Izzy's funeral, that and because i was on my deathbed" i say
"what?" they all say in shock
"i nearly died, everyone... everyone said goodbye to me. The doctors told everyone i wasn't going to last. It broke my heart seeing everyone say goodbye. But somehow i made a recovery" i tell them
"but what about now? are you free of it?" Issac asks
"no well a bit, I have to have four clear scans for the doctor to say i'm cancer free. I've had two already and had my third today" i tell them
"what are you doing at school then?" Ace asks
"well you could say that it is apart of my recovery" i say
"recovery?"
"yeah i have to do certain things, figure out what is normal again, find ways that i can improve my health, yeah i may be on the road to being cancer free but my body needs help to recover from the abuse it's been taking for three years" i tell them
"we didn't take Emily to her dance class, i went with Holly to her doctors appointment" Jordan says
"she begged me to let her go to izzy's funeral but i just couldn't let her" my mom tells them
"Did Izzy know?" Issac asks
"No i wanted to tell her in person but every time i saw her she was so happy, i didn't want to make her upset and by the time i really wanted to tell her it was too late" i tell them
They all stand up and hug me.
"can you not tell anyone, i don't want to be known as the sick girl" i say
"we won't tell a soul" Issac tells me
"thanks" i say
"Sooo......" Jordan says standing there awkwardly.
"right who fancies a takeaway?" my mom asks making everyone laugh
"chinese? Indian? Italian?" she suggests
"Italians safest to go" my dad says
"and plus, garlic bread" i say
"what two margaritas? garlic bread? fries? boys what do you want?" my mom asks
"i'll have a pineapple pizza" Ace says
"same here" Ryder and Issac tells her
"woah woah woah" Flynn and i say at the same time
"let's stop you right there" i say
"it's a fruit!" flynn says
"what's a tomato" Ace says
"a veg" i squeak out "is it a fruit?" i quietly mumble to flynn
"is it?" Ryder asks
"yeah but a tomato- " i begin
"do you put a tomato on a pizza?" Issac asks
"yeah yeah you know what your right but pineapple it's tangy" flynn says with a disgusted look on his face
"it's perfect it's contrast" Ace says
"you know what let's have a vote" i say
"ham and pineapple" Issac says
"you are joking" i say outraged
"your meat and then your pineapple contrast, you put tomato on your pizza your argument goes to nothing"
"a pineapple cannot be anywhere near a pizza" Flynn says
"yeah but you have just told me it's a fruit so what's your other reason" Ryder says
"but it's a tangy fruit, would you put an orange on a fruit?" i ask
"i wouldn't personally no" Ace says
"no so what's the difference between that and a pineapple?" Flynn asks "they are both like tangy fruits"
"it's just works doesn't it" Issac says
"NO!" we both shout at them
"you know what we're going" Flynn says walking off
"yeah shove it with your pineapple on your pizza" i say following him
"what about your garlic bread?" my mom asks
"mother please order it and i'll have it for another day" i say walking past her
they all follow us into the hallway and we both turn around when we get to the door and look at them.
They all have amused looks on their faces except for me and Flynn
"The disney characters are out!" i say throwing my hand in the air causing them to laugh and Flynn opens the door for me and we walk out
"i can't believe them!" i say
"i know what monsters" he tells me and i walk round to my side of his car and get in.
We both fasten our seatbelts and Flynn starts his car up before setting off.
"so where are we going for pizza?" i ask
"that diner has good pizza" Flynn tells me
"then let's go" i say
"as you wish Rapunzel" he tells me and i smile
