"Xiao Gao, please. Just this one time."

"Xiao Shen, you can ask me to do a million other things and I will be glad to help you. But singing, no thank you." He said firmly, shaking his head.

Yue threw her hands up in the air. "You are my last hope! Performance is in two hours. And you have the low baritone voice just like Tan Quan. Please, Xiao Gao."

"Yue, you need a professional singer. I'm a bathroom singer." He grinned.

"Dammit, Gao. Where am I going to find a professional singer now?"

She sat down in despair. Tan Quan, her partner was taken ill that afternoon and Yue thought Gao would be willing to help her. But he was adamant. He had incurable stage freight when it came to singing. Playing the drums in the back end was fine though.

Yue was looking forward to performing this tonight. She had written this song years ago and finally, she decided to muster her courage to sing it in public. Doing it afraid.

She sighed and stood up. "It's okay. I will sing this number alone."

She got down from the stage and went to the manager of the club, Dee Hsu. "Hsu-jie, can you please reserve the front table for me? A friend is coming tonight."

"Sure. A special friend?"

Yue laughed. "Just a new friend. He came back from Japan. Oh, he is a rapper."

"A Japanese rapper? Now that is the first. Do you think he will be keen to perform here?"

"Why don't you ask him, Hsu-jie? I barely know this guy." And yet, there was something about him. She shivered suddenly.

About that time, the front door opened and a familiar face popped in. From a distance, Yue saw him and her heart did a somersault.

He had black leather jacket, over his white shirt and a black skinny jeans. His hair was loosely gelled with one side dropping down slightly and he looked fresh.

Something was different about him tonight. Oh, his hair color. It was black. She found herself flustering. The urge to run her fingers through his hair was enveloping her. She quickly shook that thought away.

He waved when he saw her and she waved back.

"You are early. Performance only starts in two hours." She quipped. Again, he was wearing that oak vanilla fragrance that she really liked. Her palms turned sweaty.

He grinned. "I'm always early. I didn't want to miss anything. You look nice tonight, Yue. Different but nice."

His eyes ran from her face down to her black boots. She was wearing a long-sleeved turtle neck black top, paired with a dull pink tutu layered skirt and a Gucci belt.
