Was it the howling of the wind? Or the rain hitting the window panes that woke her up? Her eyes fluttered open to the morning sunlight breaking into the room. Had she slept that long sitting down?

Her gazed travelled to his face. Sleeping. Peaceful. Her heart sank. So Didi did not wake up yesterday.

"It's my birthday, Didi," she whispered. Nai Nai would want her home today for birthday noodles and eggs as usual.

She got up and stretched her arms, and emitted a huge sigh. Bad posture was giving her backaches. She really needed a good sleep on her own bed. But each time she tried to catch a shut-eye at home, her thoughts would travel back here. What if Didi wakes up? He would be disappointed if she was not here for him.

Some people said that it is hard to wait around for something we know might never happen; but it is even harder to give up when we think it is everything we want.

Didi was everything she wanted. She would rather wait.

She stood by the window and looked out. The rain reflected her mood. Winter would end soon to give way to spring. It was the longest winter she had ever been through.

She thought the winter after Jackson died was lonely and cold but it was nothing compared to watching Didi everyday, hoping and praying he would wake up. Only to be let down by the end of each day.

But now, hope seemed so near. She just had to have a little bit more patience.

Turning to Didi, she said softly, "I want to dress you up today. You know what a fashionista you are, right? I brought our matchy Miley Cyrus hoodies."

Oh but stupid Yue! You are supposed to be his caregiver. The matching hoodie would be a giveaway of your identity.

"I know I will wear something over it." She grinned and went to get warm water and towel.

She started to wipe his face, arms and legs. The nurse could do it but she took joy in the task, a way for her to spend time with him. What else could she do but stare at him after this? Keeping herself busy helped her not to overthink.

She was combing his hair when she saw something moved. Wait, is it my imagination? She blinked and rubbed her eyes. His eyes seemed to be fluttering.

"Didi! Can you hear me?" She asked softly, nearing her face to him. His eye balls moved again. She squealed, and quickly put a hand over her mouth. She tapped his shoulder and kept calling his name.

"Wang He Di. Can you hear me? Didi. Tsuru."

She started checking other parts of his body when she saw his fingers moved. She quickly held his hand against her cheek. The tears she was holding back started streaming down her cheeks. "Didi, wake up. I am here. I'm not going anywhere till you open your eyes. DIDI, WAKE UP!"
