"This is why you keep appearing in my dreams. Those were the memories of his heart," Didi said, pressing his lips together. "This is a coincidence."
"Who is Jackson Wang?" Yiren asked. "Is it someone you know?"
"Isn't he the rap singer?" YiBo asked, looking around the table to check if the name resonated with anyone.
Yiren sat up excitedly. "Is that why Didi suddenly could sing rap? What else can he do?" Then, she frowned. "How did he have dreams of Yue? So, it must be someone that she knows. Shen Yue, do you know Jackson?"
No one noticed that Yue had turned white. She felt her knees went jelly. And her hands were shaking. Jia Er. His name kept repeating in her mind. Didi has Jia Er's heart. Why Jia Er? Out of all the billions of people in China, it had to be him.
She looked at Didi, her eyes confused and disturbed. She heard Yiren's question but she could not speak a word.
"Jackson is Yue's ex-boyfriend," Didi said softly.
Everyone gasped again. "So....so he died in the car accident and they harvested his heart to give to Didi. What are the odds? Oh my God, Jackson saved Didi! We must burn some incense for him tomorrow." Yiren said.
Okaasan finally spoke. "Yue, are you okay, my child? You haven't spoken a word."
She nodded her head slowly. Still in a daze, she gave a wan smile. "I'm okay. I'm just shocked. I didn't know he had given consent to organ donation."
"Gosh, it must be so hard for you, Yue. But aren't you glad that his passing away gave life to Didi? I mean it worked in a way for you two. Like it was your destiny." Yiren stated.
She felt Didi's fingers intertwining hers and she turned to him. His eyes were soft and there was so much depth of compassion that Yue felt she was drowning. "Do you want to go somewhere and talk about this? I'm done with dinner."
The others picked the signal. Uncle Kenji stood up first. "I'm going for a walk with your mom, Didi. It looks like a nice night. Shen Yue, it was pleasure meeting you." He bowed and touched her shoulder. Yue stood up and bowed.
The others bid good night and Yue went towards Okaasan, "Thank you for the kind hospitality, Madam Wang. I really enjoyed myself," she smiled, trying to ignore the sinking feeling she felt in her stomach.
Okaasan held her for a hug. "I can see that you love my son very much. He is still a child and he needs you."
Yue felt a lump rose to her throat. "Madam Wang, forgive me. I'm afraid of hurting Didi. He has been nothing but good to me."
"Don't apologize. Work things out together. You can only do this together. And please call me Okaasan," she said as she squeezed the young girl's hand, sensing something amiss after they announced Jackson as his son's heart donor. She mentally reminded herself to keep them in her prayers.
