I look at the outfit and wonder where the rest of it is. There's no way that this is Max's outfit. There must be some mistake. Sitting on the hanger is an underwear set.
Now, maybe the maroon pair would be cute underneath clothes, but I was lacking the actual outfit part. My thoughts are interrupted by Camila knocking on the dressing room door.
"Almost done, sweetie? What's taking so long?"
She hollers, the sound muffled by the thick wooden door. I hesitate to answer because I don't want to be rude, but I have to say something.
"Um, I think there's a problem with..." I start to say, but I get cut off by her.
"Oh don't be silly, just put it on. Be like Finn, here. He's being so obedient today." She squeals. Right. Finn is also here. Standing pretty much right outside. Great. Just great.
"Okay." I tell her as I change into the so-called outfit and put my regular clothes on another hanger.
"Well, come out so I can see it!" She says, possibly growing a bit impatient.
"Um, I don't think I can do that. Can you just come in?" I add as I unlock the door.
"Oh, you can't do the zipper! I should have known! Silly me. Finn would you be a dear and go zip her up?" She rambles in a quite flustered tone.
"No, no, no, no, no!" I quickly yell, but clearly not fast enough because she grasps the door handle and shoves Finn into the room. I quickly turn around and so does Finn when he notices that I'm basically bare.
"Yea, I think there's a problem." Finn admits as his face turns a scarlet red and he is still turned towards the opposite direction. "There's nothing for me to zip." Finn says as he exits the dressing room to Camila.
"What do you mean?" She replies.
"She only has under stuff!" He replies, a little flustered.
This situation is just getting worse and worse.
"Oh!" She says as she finally steps into the dressing room holding a robe. "I'm sorry, hon! This is for a different movie! I just made things really awkward! Sorry." She manages to spit out in one breath.
"It's fine." I say.
"Put this on, dear." She hands me the silky robe. I step out and see an embarrassed looking Finn, still scarlet red. I walk up to him, equally embarrassed.
"Let's just pretend that didn't happen." I say coolly, or at least trying to be.
"Sure." He smiles as he sighs, looking a lot more relaxed and at ease. Camila apologizes like 10 more times, and I finally get directed to the right place. I thank her and I step into the right dressing room and see the right costume this time. A pair of light wash, full length mom jeans. And for a top, a yellow, blue, pink, and purple striped sweater. Now this is more like it.I slip into it a lot more confidently than the first one and step out.
"You look lovely!" She exclaims. "I still need to finish up with Finn, but you should head out now. Our little wardrobe malfunction put us a bit behind today's already tight schedule. Go and get your hair and make up all nice and ready then go straight to the Hawkins Middle School set. The Duffers are waiting for you." She says as she scurries back to Finn with some red striped shorts in her hand. I listen to her orders and head towards the hair and makeup trailer. The bright sun beams down on my face and it feels like a perfect summer day. I open the door and walk into the small room.————————————————————————
"Thanks!" I shout out to the hair and makeup team as I close the door behind me. They did the basic "no makeup" look that they do with most of us kids in the show, to keep up with the realism. And they put my hair in loose curls with a thick braid to hold it back and out of my face.As I head to the set where "Hawkins Middle School" is, I start to think about all of my long lines. Then, I suddenly remember that this scene is my first big scene after my incident. A few days ago, Caleb and I did act in another one, but it was really small and simple. Nothing more than a few quick lines. This, however, is a huge plot point and a big turning point in the series. It's almost the climax. My hands start to get clammy and sweaty and a nervous lump sits in my stomach and in my throat. I really don't want to mess this up. Even though I don't remember much, and I'm starting out fresh, I really truly love acting, but this damn bullet might get in the way of that.
It keeps getting in the way.
I just can't wait for the carnival.————————————————————————
"Max! This isn't a joke!""There's no way El's gone, Lucas! It's just... it's just not possible."
"We knew that she was getting weaker, and when she went to try and stop the new portal from getting bigger, she just..."
"Just what?"
"She just disappeared."
"And scene!" Ross Duffer yells.
"Great job guys! See you day after tomorrow, and please don't forget to review the upcoming script. We changed a few things and the storyline is a little bit different than what we originally planned, but it's not so drastic that everything else is messed up. It actually fits in perfectly." Matt Duffer yells, or at least I think it was him. I really can't tell those two apart.
I head back to my trailer and look at the time. I have an hour and a few minutes before I have to leave for the carnival, so I have to get ready. I finish a leftover smoothie that was sitting in my fridge from breakfast and dash into my bedroom. Just as I toss my phone onto my bed, it pings. I flop onto the bed and check the notification. It's a message from Finn.Finn:
Can't wait to win u a prize ⭐️This was going to be fun.
