Things that annoy me on Wattpad

I have seen countless posts on social media about how girls and guys can just be best friends and not fall in love with each other, yet Wattpad teens didn't seem to get the memo.

Don't get me wrong, I love a cute 'I fell in love with my best friend' story and there are instances in real life where this happens, but it feels like authors just throw the best friend into the mix to create a love triangle and subsequently, more conflict.

Honestly? It sometimes feels like they didn't know what to write and then just decided to go that route.

Again, it's different when the best friend has shown signs of liking the main character from the beginning, but just randomly half way through the book declaring their love is absurd.

I have A LOT of guy friends.

Growing up, and even now, I tend to get along better with guys because despite my girly side, I can be quite a tomboy...BUT! I have never fallen in love with any of them.

I had a crush on one guy before we were friends, but it disappeared as soon as I got to know him better and the other one I thought I had a crush on, but turns out it was just because that is what everyone expected.

So no, I haven't fallen in love with one of my guy friends, neither my best friend (In fact, just the other day his then girlfriend thought he was cheating on her with me because we were out together, while I was totally intrigued and 'crushing' on his hostel buddy that was with us).

Now the opposite of that?

I don't know their thoughts, but as far as I'm concerned, also no.

Is it too much to ask to read a story where one of the best friends don't fall in love as a subplot? It is a bit overused and the poor main character loses their best friend because they go off to sulk in a corner or try to sabotage the main character's new relationship.

Just an afterthought...if thw best friend has really been in love with the main character for their whole life, why can't they just zip their lips and go on with their silent crush when our main character gets a new guy?
