Most stories have a girl that tries to get with the main guy. A girl that isn't the MC.

I know, because I have a character like that.

It's fine to make them flirty and a bit overbearing, but it's criminal to make them two-dimensional. They're human too and have a life aside from being a massive flirt and annoying the readers.

Obviously a guy won't pick the girl that just shamelessly throws herself at him, especially over this perfect MC...but give it depth.

No one is JUST bad. Give her a talent, interests, personality.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to see the main guy going on a date with this girl or talking with her in an environment where he learns more about her? They can even get along to an extent, but the twist can come in when they (or just one of the two, I guess) realize that they don't really have anything in common or that they're interests class.

This can lead to great shipping scenes, because the readers just saw or heard how the guy and this other struggled to find things to talk about and then later he's around the MC and the conversation just flows. The readers will pick up on this and it will just make them want the relationship between main guy and girl even more.
