Sometimes I think I'm getting too old for Wattpad, or at least reading most of the books on here.

I have read amazing books and I know that there are more out there that is definitely worth the read, but it feels like I keep stumbling on the ones that just don't work for me.

I'm not saying the books are bad, they just tend to annoy me because the characters are really childish.

A young me would've read those books without a complaint, but now I'm turning 21 and honestly I find myself rolling my eyes more often than not.

High school stories are fine, because I expect that behaviour from high school students, but then I read books about college students or people that are working already and I can tell that it's written by a 15 year old, because honey, that is NOT how life works.

I unpublished my stories temporarily, but while they were still published someone asked me why all my characters are in their early twenties and my answer is that I relate better to them.

Yeah, I might write a high school story again, but that's not where I am in my life.

I'm currently in university and I have spent time working in the field I'll be working in one day, so I know what to expect and that is what I subconsciously expect from Wattpad books.

I feel that if you're writing about a phase in your life in which you haven't been, do research or ask someone in that phase to tell you more about it.

For example, I won't write a pregnancy story or one where the characters have little kids, because I know absolutely nothing thereof.

There's this saying in Afrikaans: Skoenmaker hou jou by jou lees.

Basically it means stick to what you know...

PS I'm not saying the stories are bad or that you shouldn't write about an idea you had for something you haven't experienced ❤️
