Are people actually traumatized by moving?

So, I've read a few stories where the characters move and completely freak out. They're too afraid to make friends (even though they were social butterflies back home) or they're angry at their parents and refuse to go and whatever.

Maybe it's true for some people (please tell me if it is), but again, I didn't experience it like that.

During the last 8 years I've been living in one place, but by the time I was 14 I have lived in 2 countries, 5 provinces and 7 cities (and now I'm at 13 houses).

It has never been traumatic, I didn't get upset with my parents (because I knew we were moving because of my dad's job) and I didn't really struggle to make friends.

I just packed my things and settled into a new place.

I think it taught me a lot. It taught me how to make friends, how to adapt and how distance doesn't mean that your friendship has to fade.

I still have contact with people from almost every place I lived in...

It's just that, I think people with social anxiety and that are very shy would struggle more (I wanted to say people that struggle with change, but I hate when things change... So I don't know), but why is your social butterfly that makes friends with just about anyone scared?

Isn't a new school an opportunity to meet new people?

And lastly, it bothers me that the people cut their friends off completely. Obviously you don't necessarily talk daily, but you're still friends.

My best friend lives 3 hours away. Our lives are completely different and we don't talk that much...but that doesn't matter. She's still my best friend.
