Thirty minutes later, Rey, Alexander, Poe, and Finn were sitting in the conference room planning out how to end the First Order. So far, all of their ideas didn't stop the fact that Ben had threatened to blow Alderaan up.
"Are we blind? Deploy the military!" Poe shouted as he ran a hand through his thick dark hair. His eyebrows creased together. He wore a look of tiredness on his face, having not gotten sleep recently. Poe was worried about the situation with the First Order, and with Ben. He knew that if they destroyed the First Order, Ben would be caught in the crossfire and die also. Poe was okay with that, but he knew Rey would be devastated. They needed to find a solution that ended the First Order but spared Ben, and quickly.
Alexander huffed, placing his chin on his crossed hands. "We can't simply deploy the military. If Rey truly doesn't want to kill Ben, we cannot just send Alderaan's military to the Steadfast. Ben would die." Alexander licked his cracked lips, refreshing them from talking so much.
"Then what are we gonna do? If Ben said he's gonna blow up Alderaan, he means it. He doesn't care about human lives," Finn yelled, his eyes scanning his friends and Alexander. "He showed that in the Starkiller incident." Finn shook his head slightly, unable to fathom how Rey could be with such an inhumane creature. It shook him down to his very core. He massaged his temples, his headache increasing his lack of sleep.
Rey had a grim look on her face. "But letting Ben die the right thing to do? It shows we're no better than him."
Rey was most certainly not going to let Ben die. She loved him. Letting Ben die was not on her agenda.
"He's giving us no other option," Finn responded, looking up. "I mean, you guys do realise that he won't hesitate to kill any of us, right?" His eyes flickered to Rey, his expression softening. "I mean, maybe not Rey. But he's bound to kill us."
Poe sighed. "The thing is, Ben said he was going to bomb Alderaan, right? How is he going to make sure Rey is safe?" he asked, searching around the room to see if anyone could answer. "I mean, doesn't that leave us both at odds? Ben has to make sure Rey doesn't get harmed, and we have to make sure Ben doesn't get harmed," Poe explained. "So what we know is that he won't blow up Alderaan right now. He still has to think of a plan."
"There was to be some way to negotiate with him," Alexander said, stroking his chin. "Do you think you'd be able to strike a deal with him?" he asked, turning to Rey.
"What kind of deal?" Rey responded. She doubted Ben would be open to any kind of negotiation, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"I don't know," Alexander replied quickly, shaking his head. "Maybe you and Ben go off-planet for this battle?"
Rey raised her eyebrows. "As in, we don't participate in this? We go to some random planet while you and the First Order fight to the death?" she said, unbelieving. "Absolutely not."
Alexander sighed. He folded his hands on the table. "Okay. What else could we do?" he questioned. "Does anyone have an idea?" He looked around the room for an answer.
Silence filled the room. Nobody talked, or even moved a muscle.
Nobody knew how they could spare Rey and Ben from the fight, it just wouldn't work out.
Alexander took a deep breath in through his mouth. "We need to think of something."
"Why can't we just let Ben die? He's a terrible person," Finn complained, rolling his eyes. "Sparing him won't help us at all. It just complicates things even further."
