Kill. Me. Now.
I always hated school but this... This is too much. I got assigned three new projects and a bunch of maths sheets. I had barely seen Liam all day because he was hanging out with Justin and his 'gang' of idiots. But we did have gym class together so I guess it was okay. I closed the door behind me and walked towards the silver benches where everyone else in the class sat. I pulled at the small black gym shorts that we were forced to wear, along with the small black and white shirt that stopped just above my belly button. I felt really self-conscious in these clothes. I had never worn clothes that showed so much skin on my legs and stomach, especially around people from my school."Alright, on your feet!" Coach Tye yelled. "Everyone get a partner and one do twenty sit-ups while the other will stand on their feet."
Liam started to walk towards me but got intercepted by a girl named Jessica. I could tell that she was flirting with him, he would probably want her to be his partner.
I started towards the back of the gym, I didn't want to do this if Liam wasn't. You may call me a sook, but I never really did P.E anyway so it didn't matter. I usually skipped it or came up with some excuse to not participate.
I sat on the state that was near the back of the gym and watched as one person climbed onto a thin blue mat and the other stood on his feet. I pulled my book out of my bag and started to read chapter sixteen."Hey." A light, joy-filled voice said. "So, um, I don't have a partner and neither do you so..."
I peered up from my thick book. The bit had dark brown hair and beautiful, brown, captivating puppy dog eyes. He smiled at me and I forced the heat in my cheeks down. He wasn't too bad in the face, his smile was pretty cute.
"Uh, I'm Pheonix, by the way." He stuck out his hand.
"Ruby," I muttered back.
I shook his hand and warm, comforting fingers enclosed mine. He smiled at me as he released my hand. I put my bookmark in and stuffed my book in my bag, hopping off the stage. I could feel peoples gazes in me as I got down on my back and Pheonix stood in my toes. Though one pair of eyes burned into my body, a pair of soft, baby blues that I couldn't say no to.
I glanced at Liam, who now stood on Jessicas feet while she tried to catch his attention. He frowned at me and ever so slightly, cocked his head to the side. I gave him a helpless shrug and turned my attention back to how many sit-ups I was doing. Today was gonna be great.I flopped onto the bed and kicked my shoes off. After what felt like two seconds, my door cracked open. My mothers head poked through and she smiled at me.
"Hey, just wanted to tell you that we're going out for dinner tonight so get ready." She turned to leave, then said over her shoulder. "We'll be leaving in two hours so, chop, chop."
I groaned and buried my face in my fluffy pillows. why does the world hate me? Why did my mother want to go out for dinner? I wondered if Liam was coming, I really hope he is.
No, I thought to myself, I can't think like that. It's not safe. I know the chances of him leaving again are low, but they're never zero. I can't risk it again, no matter how much I love him. I have to protect myself.I sighed and glanced at my watch for the 100th time that evening. This was utter hell. My mother and Ian hadn't stopped talking since we got here, I didn't even know why I was here if they were going to completely ignore me. I pulled my phone from my jacket pocket and started playing Tetris, the only offline game I had.
"Young lady, put your phone away now," Carol ordered. "It's very bad manners."
I rolled my eyes. "What are you going to do if I don't?" I questioned.
She looked baffled.
"What? Not used to being talked back to? Well, you can't exactly ground me because, well, I wouldn't listen. And you can't make a big scene unless you want me to take you to court, so what are you gonna do about it? Hmm?" I spat my words like acid.
They both fell silent and I could see a few tears welling in my mother's blue eyes. I scoffed. Really? She was going to cry? Pathetic.
I stood."I'm going home," I said, venom still in my voice.
I stormed out the Thai restaurant and started walking down the street towards the bridge. A quick late-night stroll couldn't hurt, right?
Once there I continue over it until I get to where the forest started on the other side. It was peaceful in the night. Crickets chirped, leaves swayed in the slight breeze and the moonlight shone down, illuminating everything.I was nearing the lake when a low growl erupted from behind me. I froze mid-step and glanced over my shoulder. There stood a jet black wolf, yellow eyes glittering and its lips pulled back in a savage snarl. It was just taller than me, and it could defiantly outrun me, males always had the advantage when it came to running and hunting and things like that. But hey, a girl could hope, right?
I sprinted off into the forest, the wolf close behind.
