Liam P.O.V

"Good morning Mrs Daly," I said as I walked into the kitchen, Ruby behind me.

"Morning, mum." Ruby copied behind me.

She smiled at me, "good morning, Liam." Then her eyes flicked to Ruby and her face dropped.

Yesterday I'd heard Ruby and her mother fighting from my home so I had come over here to make sure she was okay. I could tell that she was hurt by her mother's words, and considering she didn't even kill her father it was insane to tell at her that she did.

"I have to go to work today," Ruby said to me as she poured herself a bowl of cereal, "my shift starts at eleven."

I nodded, "you want me to drive you?"

She smiled, "Yes, please. As long as you're not taking care of your family or the pack, or doing anything else important like-"

"It's fine, Ruby." I laughed, cutting her off.

She was so considerate, it was almost unhealthy. She pecked my cheek. Her mother stormed from the kitchen and Ruby flinched as her bedroom door slammed shut.

"Don't worry." I murmured to her, "It'll be alright, she'll come around."

Ruby nodded but didn't look too convinced. I hated seeing my mate so upset, it crushed me.
She finished her breakfast and went upstairs, leaving me in the kitchen. I didn't bother trying to follow her knowing that she was getting dressed and would probably kick me out if I tried to get in.

I sighed and looked around the room. This was where they had taken me from her... I wondered if she was scared that I was going to disappear again.
As if on cue, she shouted my name.

"YEAH BABE?" I shouted back up the stairs.

"HAVE YOU SEEN MY JEANS?"

"WHICH ONES?" She had so many it was honestly hard to tell them apart.

"THE ONES WITHOUT THE RIPS IN THEM!" She answered.

I frowned, trying to remember if she had put them in the wash, then something caught my eye.
They were sprawled on the back of the couch, rumpled and creased.

"LEE?"

"THEY'RE DOWN HERE," I shouted back up.

I walked up the stairs and knocked on the door before letting myself in. She was putting numerous pairs of jeans back into her drawers, her back to me. She wasn't wearing a shirt, only a bra and underwear.

"Here." I held them out to her and she smiled at me, taking them.

It was amazing how her smile still made me feel light and fluffy inside. Just as she was about to walk into her bathroom I grabbed her and pulled her against my chest, her back was facing me.

"You're beautiful, you know that?" I murmured onto her skin.

Bumps rose on her smooth skin and I smirked against her shoulder as she shivered.

"Thanks." She said, a blush creeping over her cheeks.

I kissed next to her bra strap and nuzzled her neck, feeling her body heat up through my clothes.

"Lee?"

"Mmm?"

"Are you okay?" She asked and I frowned, peering at her.

"Yeah, why?"

"It's just... When we found you, you were covered in bruises and blood and cuts," she explained, "and you've been acting different lately."

"What do you mean 'different'?" I asked, turning her to look at me.

It was hard not to be distracted by her body but I managed, even as my heart raced in my chest and my stomach clenched.

"Kind of... Clingy? Over-protective? I'm not sure how to describe it but it worries me." She wrapped her arms around my neck, worry indeed glazing her eyes.

I traced small circles in her waist, pulling her closer to me.
"Look, it just bothers me that rogues could get here so easily. And if they could get to me they could get to you too." I explained and her tense muscles relaxed and she smiled softly.

"Babe," she started, running her fingers through my hair, "they can't get to me. I'm safe, you're safe, and so are your family and the pack. As long as one of us is here then everything will be okay."

I nodded and closed my eyes, letting my brow brush hers. I felt her lips on my cheek and leaned into her warm touch.

"I love you." I sighed, never wanting to let her go.

"I love you too." She answered, then pulled away, "now, I have to get ready for work."

I groaned as she took her pants and a shirt then sauntered into the closet.

Damn.

Ruby P.O.V

Our little moment kept pushing at my mind all day, begging for me to pay attention to it.
Instead, I focused on serving and greeting the people who came into our small cafe.
Liam stayed for my entire shift, claiming that it was for my safety. He also ordered two Pack Warriors to come into the cafe, he thought I didn't notice but I was fully aware of their presence.

"Excuse me," a boy around my age asked, "what's your name?"

Three other boys sat around the circle table, all having a mischievous glint in their eyes.

"Ruby," I answered, smiling, "is there something I can get you?"

"Your number and a lap-dance would be nice." He and his friends all chuckled.

I heard a blood-curdling growl from behind me and grabbed Liam's hand, rushing from the main room and into the back.

Once out of sight he grabbed me roughly and pulled me into his hard chest.

"Mine," he growled into my neck, kissing my mark.

I nodded, rubbing the back of his neck soothingly, the other hand tangled in his hair.
Possessive idiot, I thought.
"That's right," I nodded as he continued his possessive nonsense, "I'm all yours."

He nibbled on my mark and I couldn't help the blissful sigh that escaped my lips.
He did it again, biting harder, hands balling up the fabric of my blue shirt. He pushed me against one of the lockers, growling. I tilted my head to the side, granting him more access to my neck.

"Liam," I breathed, trying to pull away.

He growled louder and pressed his body to mine again. I loved the way he felt against me and was tempted to urge him on, but I was in the job. And if someone were to walk in here and see us then I wouldn't have a job at all.

"Liam," I said, my voice stronger now, "that's enough, come on, I have to get back to work."

He huffed, kissing my neck one more time before lifting his head. His lips brushed mine, barely more than the touch of a feather, before he pulled back completely.

"Thank you," I said, squeezing his hand.

He nodded, kissing my temple, "If they call you over again tell someone else to take care of them, alright?"

I nodded then lead us out of the dark room and into the cafe. No one had noticed we were gone accept the warriors, who were pretending like they weren't looking but kept stealing glances.
Liam nodded to them and they both got up and left.

"When does your shift end?" Liam asked me.

I looked at the clock on the far wall, then smiled.

"Right now."
