Chapter 19: run away

Ruby P.O.V
Liam had been acting really different since the incident in the bathroom.
He'd been watching me more closely, but he's also been very distant. It's like he's trying to avoid me and I don't know why.

I kept replaying the last few days in my head to see if I did anything wrong but nothing comes to mind. I really miss my mate, it's like he's left again.
I curled up on my bed in my room when Andy came in and sat next to me.

"Hey." He said, giving me a soft smile.

"Hi, "

"So... Since the doctor said that you need to go out more, we were going to go to the park. And before you ask-" he said as I took a breath to say something, "-no, you don't get a choice so get ready to leave in ten minutes."

I groaned as he got up and left.
My mother and Ian had moved back in and Liam had been staying at his house for the past week.
I missed him and wondered if he would be coming with us.

I got out of bed and went into my closet, pulling out a pair of jeans, a black t-shirt and some black combat boots. I also tucked a knife in each of my boots and one up my sleeve so it was easy to reach.
I had learned from my mistakes and since I couldn't take a gun, I decided to go with throwing knives since they can also be used for close range.
I quickly brushed my hair and pulled it into a high ponytail.

"Ruby come on!" I heard Andy yell from downstairs.

I had told them to stop calling me Luna since we were practically living together now.

"Okay! Jeez!" I yelled back and went downstairs.

Liam wasn't there, only Andy and Janco.
Even though they were both way older than me I kinda considered them as my friends.

"Is Liam coming?" I asked, just in case he's meeting us there, I told myself.

But I knew by the looks on their faces that he wasn't coming. I started to wonder if he even missed me, or what is he wasn't my mate? What if we had mistaken a close friendship for the mate bond and he figures it out but didn't tell me?
I just wanted him back.

We left for the park and as we were pulling out of my driveway I saw Liam watching us from his window. Our eyes locked and I smiled at him, but he didn't do anything. He just watched as we left.
While we were driving I decided to connect to his mind.

What's wrong?

Nothing, what do you want? He asked me, sounding faintly annoyed.

I-i miss you, I haven't seen you since... You know... The accident. I said, looking for the right words.

Why would you want to see your abusive mate, Ruby? Do you have any brains at all?

I frowned. Why're you being such an ass?

I'm not, I'm just acting like an abuser normally would.

YOU'RE NOT AN ABUSER!! I shouted into the mind link.

Abusers hit people, Darlin. I hit you, therefore, I'm an abuser.

I shook my head. What's the point in having a mate who won't even talk to you?
I cut off the link and stared out the window. Liam was many things but he was not an abuser. Everyone gets angry and he didn't mean to hurt me, he apologized, got me ice cream and even cleaned up the mess. An abusive mate wouldn't do that.

"You alright back there?" I heard Janco asked as he turned in his seat, Andy was driving.

I sighed and shook my head. "He may as well leave again if he's going to keep acting like this," I said to him.
