Just a quick note before I start this album, I'm changing my unboxing format a little. It'll now be a group of lyrics being defined. Very similar to Genius Lyrics. Please comment what you think about these lyrics too!
Written by: Calum, Ashton, Luke, Micheal, Andrew Watt, Ali Tamposi and Louis Bell
Genre: Pop rock
Lyrics and Their Meaning:
Remember the words you told me, love me 'til the day I die
Surrender my everything 'cause you made me believe you're mine
Yeah, you used to call me baby, now you calling me by nameTakes one to know one, yeah
You beat me at my own damn gameThis first verse is the beginning of heartache. The protagonist is reflecting on his/her relationship and realises certain things about their partner. Takes one to know one, that's and interesting line. It could be taken as it takes a cheater to know another one. One thing I wonder, why is it by name, and not my name?
You push and you push and I'm pulling away
Pulling away from you
I give and I give and I give and you take, give and you takeThey're being pushed into a situation that they really don't want to be apart of (hence, pulling away from you). They've been giving them things (i.e. money, love) and the other person hasn't been returning it.
Youngblood
Say you want me
Say you want me
Out of your lifeAnd I'm just a dead man walking tonight
But you need it, yeah, you need it
All of the time
Yeah, ooh ooh oohThey're inconclusive, they say one thing then the opposite. And the protagonist is like, 'I'm trying to figure you out, but you just keep switching your ideas on me. I'm trying to keep up with you, but it's killing me to do so (I'm just a dead man walking tonight).'
Youngblood
Say you want me
Say you want me
Back in your lifeSo I'm just a dead man crawling tonight
'Cause I need it, yeah, I need it
All of the time
Yeah, ooh ooh oohThis part shows the indecisiveness of both the protagonist and their partner. Switching between the two parts saying, yeah I don't need you, but what if I do? And in reality, it just plays with the other's mind.
Lately our conversations end like it's the last goodbye
Yeah, one of us gets too drunk and calls about a hundred times
So who you been calling, baby, nobody could take my place
When you're looking at those strangers, hope to God you see my faceThis vibe is almost as if they have broken up, but they're "on a break" (as Ross would put it!). They lean on each other, however neither are ready to full commit. They want to know that eachother still think about them, but then there's the indecisiveness that comes along with the person.
You're running around and I'm running away
Running away from you, from youIt's almost as if the protagonist knows their partner is running around with random people, having meaningless flings. And they don't want anything to do with it. Or it could be literally running. It depends on your interpretation.
Yay or Nay: 10000000000% YAY! (if you don't like this song, then you have not lived!)
What It Reminds Me Of: This song gives me an industrial vibe (not as big as Easier or Teeth but it definitely paved the pathway for these songs). This song was something new and fresh, and that's what made people love it so much! It was from a traditionally pop-punk band, but reimagined. And as we go through this album, we see that more often. The boys like to intermix many different genres to make a song weird and quirky in it's own way.
