Lyrics and their meaning:

Drink all night, never sleep
You say go, I won't leave
I love you, you love me
But not in the same way
Rip my heart out and leave
On the floor, watch me bleed
I love you, you love me
But not in the same way

The protagonist is in a relationship, and they have very different meanings and opinions on it. For example, the line I love you you love me but not in the same way shows that yes they love each other but in different ways. One can be romantic, the other as a friend. That is perfect for the next couple of lines when saying rip my heart out and leave, on the floor watch me bleed. That refers back to If You Don't Know (great song by the way) which talks about knowing what you want in a relationship. The concept is similar here. Instead, NITSW talks about breaking the heart. By saying that you'll rip another person's heart out, it can mean that you damage them and leave them figuratively heartbroken.

Not today, mascara's running down your face again
I can feel it coming it down on me
Hurricane insert name
We're good at this game, game

This first verse references a lot of 5sos' previous material. Mascara's running down your face can be seen as a nod to Amnesia and we're good at this game, game to Youngblood. But, they have completely different contexts in this song compared to the lyric matches with other 5sos songs. Basically, the protagonist's partner is crying and the protagonist has a bit of guilt (I can feel it coming down on me) OR, the partner has a bad temper and lashes out like a hurricane (which makes more sense due to the next line). By saying we're good at this game, game, that could be saying that this happens frequently.

We fuck, then we fight, then you call me a psycho
I walk out the door, but you won't let me let go
Turn right around, throw rocks at your window
But I can't forget you and I'll always let you

Again with the references, a little bit of Wrapped Around Your Finger in here. I just love how fans who have listened to old EP tracks can reference back to them with these newer songs. Back to what these lyrics mean...

The protagonist and their partner have a bipolar relationship to say the least. They are close and in love one minute, fighting the next and one is getting called a psycho? Then the protagonist just gives up on the relationship altogether but their partner won't let them. It's almost like they've been hypnotised, so they keep coming back (that's where turn right around, throwing rocks at your window comes in). And it's like the partner has a voodoo doll (lol) or magic or something on the protagonist because they just keep going over and over and over again (or, in the words of Heartbreak Girl, we're going in circles again and again).

Not today, I'm waking up to my mistakes again
I know you love to point them out
Baby, I'm sick of sadness and you're sick of Xanax
We're good at this game, game

This verse took me a couple of Google searches to work out. Basically, the protagonist is constantly waking up in the same situation, like I said before, going in circles again and again. Anyway, the third line was the one that interested me the most. Baby, I'm sick of sadness maybe the protagonist suffered from depression? And your sick of Xanax (for those of you who don't know, Xanax is a type of drug (medication) that is used for short-term relief of mental issues like Anxiety and Depression), maybe the partner is either sick of sharing the medication (which they should not be doing anyways) OR, they are sick of using them and potentially just want to die.

I don't ever wanna lie to you
But I can't say no to you
I know you think I'm bulletproof
But you know how to hurt me too

The protagonist tries to act like they are not phased by all of the terrible things that their partner puts them through, however, the last line makes me think that they are purposefully doing these hateful things to see the protagonist suffer.

In the dark, we're black and white
In the morning, colourblind
Leave your mark with every bite
Then everything's alright

These lines are extremely confusing, so bare with me! First, being in the dark and at night can refer to how they are constantly going in that pattern and having the straight yes or no answers to simple questions like if they're in a relationship or not. The second line is similar however, it's almost that once they wake up, they realise how different they are and their relationship is 'colourblind' or has no depth to it.

Leave your mark with every bite could refer to a hickey or love bite. Somewhere in modern romances, a hickey became a way of marking your sexual partner.

When you tell me you love me
Then you wanna leave me
Pouring your pills down the sink
Saying, "It's not what you think"
Don't know if I love you
Don't know if I hate you
But I can't forget you
And I'll always let you

At the beginning of this section, we get the partner contradicting themselves (again!). Pouring your pills down the sink relates back to Xanax and how the protagonist's partner is sick of taking their medication. And we end this third verse off with the protagonist still in utter confusion as they try to gather their thoughts on their relationship.

Favourite Lyric: 'We fuck, we fight you call me a psycho'

Yay or nay: ABSOLUTE YAY!

What it reminds me of: Honestly, I got nothing for this. Not In The Same Way - to me - is fresh new and different. And, it kind of gives me Easier vibes lyric wise.
