Lyrics and their meaning:

I hope you think of me high

The protagonist hopes that they have made a lasting impression on their partner so that when they are in another relationship, they still remember the protagonist and their relationship. Or the first line could be literally, I hope you think of me when you're high (on drugs or alcohol).

Maybe a reason that they broke up is because the protagonist's ex's friends don't like the protagonist so they drifted the two apart and broke them up.  

Today I called to tell you that I'm changin'
But I don't think you have enough respect to see me try
I've been wakin' up in different spaces
But I think that my heart is built to last more than a night

The protagonist is trying to contact their partner to tell them the lasting imprint that they've had on their life and to tell them that they are changing to be different. And literally what is said in the second lyric, the protagonist's partner thinks that they are never going to change because they like the lifestyle. The protagonist has realised that the 'rock 'n' roll lifestyle' does not suit them.

The protagonist is reflecting on their past and they are saying that they need to stop doing stupid shit that break their relationships up.

And I always miss the memories of the mornings we were high

The protagonist knows that they will never be perfect, but in their ex's eyes they are. Every time they move forward in life (every step I take with hesitation) they are careful not to ruin it. I feel like the last line doesn't have every word in it. I feel like it should be the mornings when we were coming off of a high. But that is a little bit too long so I'd understand if they had to cut it!
