Chapter 9 When the last light disappears

Sarawat and Tine reached the dining hall for dinner, the german diplomat noticed immediately that Fukuda wasn't there so he asked 

"Is Fukuda san alright? I heard that someone tried to... jump today and that te sailors took him to the doctor but I didn't hear anything else" Fischer said, Tine finished drinking his wine and left the glass on the table, then he replied calmly

"I know right, but there's nothing to worry about, I visited him just before coming here, he was quite calm, he was pretty shocked after receiving a telegram about a failed attempt to free some prisoners from the headquarter of the korean resistance..." 

"But why did he do something like that? Just for a failed operation?" Meyer, Fischer's orderly, asked

"I don't know..." Tine replied and continued eating. Sarawat thought about it for a moment and said

"Maybe he knows some of the prisoners..."

"Yeah probably... but I suppose that we shuld just wait for him to get better and then ask him directly, right?" Tine asked 

"Yes right" Fischer replied. 

After the dessert Sarawat decided that it was time to leave so he left the dining hall while Tine followed Fischer and Meyer to the first class lounge.

A few hour passed and Tine went back to his cabin. As the maid opened the door he looked around and said

"Where's Sarawat?" 

"I don't know sir, I thought he was with you" she replied

"Wait, you mean that he didn't came back?!" 

"No sir..." 

"well... I'm sure that he will come back... soon or late..." Tine added, he sighed and sat on his bed. He was pretty tired and he just wanted to rest, however he couldn't stop thinking about Sarawat getting in trouble. 

He took his coat and went upstairs to the boat deck, he looked at the moon and at the calm water, everything was so quite when he heard that a steward was talking to an officer about a drunk passenger in the third class hall. 

At first Tine didn't thought it was important, it wasn't something unusual, third class passengers usued to get drunk especially at night, but then he heard that it was a first class passenger... wait... a first class passenger in third class? 

Tine came closer to the steward and asked

"Excuse me... did you mention a first class passenger in third class?"

"Yes sir, someone got drunk, I'm going to take him back to his cabin" the steward replied politely

"Yeah... I'm not sure... but that passenger mught be my roommate, may I come with you? If he sees you he might get nervous but I'm sure he will be calmer if he sees me." Tine asked smiling

"Well... this isn't allowed... but surely the company doesn't want a fight in third class so... alright, follow me sir"

"Thank you" 

Tine and the steward went downstairs, they walked for a few minutes but at the end they finally reached the third class general room. It wasn't easy to find that person, there was dense smoke, it was crowded and loud... but then

"Oh God... I'm really sorry for this, I will take care of him, don't worry" Tine said as he finally spotted Sarawat. The steward nodded and left. 

Tine came closer to him. Sarawat was standing in the middle of the room, he had an half empty bottle in his hand, he was singing and dancing, Tine looked at him for a moment, it was almost funny...then Sarawat grabbed the hand of a young girl and asked her to dance with him. Now... enough is enough

"Sarawat! You should come with me... we have to go back to our cabin..." Tine shouted

"shut up... I'm dancing with my new girlfriend.. right honey?" he said and the girl immediately kissed him. Tine looked at him... his eyes widened.

After a deep breath Tine came closer to him, he gently pushed the girl away, he grabbed Sarawat's shirt, he slapped him and shouted

"Fuck you!" then he pushed him away. Everything was silent now, everyone was looking at them. 

"What do you want?" Tine asked looking at the people around him.

"So, who is she?" Tine asked coming closer to Sarawat who was laying on the floor. 

"My girlfriend" 

"Good, enjoy the third class with your new girlfriend now! And you, be careful, he's an asshole." Tine replied looking at the girl when he said the last part. 

Tine left and came back to his cabin. On the way back he met Meyer who asked him where Sarawat was, Tine replied

"It looks like he prefers sleeping in a third class cabin instead of sharing a suite with me." 

"What do you mean sir?" the guy asked

"He found a ... girlfriend" Tine didn't know why he hesitated when he had to say girlfriend but he knew it was difficult. 

Tine finally reached the cabin and tried to sleep, however, he couldn't help but think about what happened so he just kept telling himself he was just drunk. 

Finally Sarawat came back, he sat on the bed

"Your bed is over there... this is mine" 

Sarawat didn't even hear that, he just stared at Tine, he looked almost angry and Tine was afraid that he was about to get mad or something like that.

"Sarawat?" he said hesitating

Sarawat came closer and kissed him, then he fell asleep all of a sudden... Sarawat fell asleep on Tine... 

Tine didn't know what was more important, that Sarawat kissed him... or that Sarawat was sleeping on him almost crushing him.
