The suitcases were spread around the dirt road. She grunted again, this was already a mess. She didn't understand what was she doing here, and the curious glances directed at her were making her nervous. Taylor guessed this is what nerds felt when they were bullied in school, she felt so out of place and scrutinized, she just wanted to go back home.
Taylor was in a horrible mood, and she let it slip with those girls that tried to help her earlier. She almost felt guilty, almost, but she didn't need anyone help, and that tall brunette was looking at her weirdly. The way that she looked at her with sympathy, she hated when people felt pity for her. And the shorter one seemed like a pain in the ass.
Her mother appeared by her side, looking the mess scattered in the road. The woman signed, looking at her upside down "Taylor, are you conscious that this is a summer camp, not the Oscars?" The girl just glared at her, she hadn't muttered a word since her parents told her the plans she was about to have for the summer "You've brought too much luggage, you'll need to leave something in the car" Taylor looked around her again, weighing her options and coming to the conclusion that she, in fact, couldn't keep everything. She was at the verge of screaming, she just couldn't believe that her parents were making her spend in this rotted place three months of her life.
Her mother put a hand in her shoulder, trying calm her down, but the effect was just the opposite. She was a pile of straw ready to burst into flames at any spark directed at her, and the touch of her mother, or any kind of human being, was enough to ignite her. She clenched her jaw, and closed her hands into fist, as she counted to ten in her head. Taylor got rid of the contact swiftly, with enough force to let her mother know she was still angry at her, but not so strong that she would get mad at her. She then proceeded to relocate the suitcases in the car trunk, deciding which one had more practical clothes. To her chagrin, she left behind all her street and going-out clothes, as well as all the high heels after looking around her, mud and soil stealing the precious sidewalks she was used to. She took advantage of the situation and changed her heels for some comfortable sneakers, already giving up on them. This wouldn't have happened if I knew where I was coming to.
Finally, Taylor grabbed a bag filled with her favorite books, and a couple she wanted to read long time ago but never found time for. She glanced at the indispensable luggage she had just elected, sighing to herself as she had to left behind almost half of items she just brought. Taylor placed the chosen bags them in her back, ready to go. There was no point on standing there the whole day anyways, so she just started walking away, not even glancing backwards.
"Taylor wait!" Her mother was calling her, but she just ignored her and kept walking ahead, too stubborn to acknowledge her, until she felt the familiar touch of the other woman in her forearm "Taylor, what are you doing? Give me a hug at least" She stared at her mother coldly for a couple of seconds, finally leaning in to give her a hug without much emotion.
"Here, take this" Her mother turned around, revealing a cover with the form of a guitar. It was her guitar, hidden behind the sheath the older woman was holding. She hadn't played in a long time, not having any kind of inspiration to create new melodies or form words. She really missed it, but the idea of not being able to put together a combination of chords and words again haunted her, so she preferred to avoid it, hoping that not thinking about it made her feel less guilty about her lost passion. However, she grabbed the guitar offered at her with reluctance, relocating it at her back slowly, her face motionless and tensed.
"Thank you" Taylor said shortly at the woman in front of her, the first word she has dared to direct at her in three days. Her eyes met her mother's, and she was taken back momentarily by the sad background that her clear eyes held. She couldn't understand why her mother always looked at her like that, like she was someone unrecognizable, maybe she didn't want to recognize either in who she had become.
