When the first test finished, time came back to its previous rhythm, minutes passed again like minutes and not hours, seconds started passing again like seconds and not minutes. Karlie was not sure how or when she came back to her cabin, how she showered and changed clothes, but before she could realize, she was again in the lunchroom next to Cara and Daya, eating a poorly seasoned salad, roast potatoes and boiled eggs, yeah, it wasn't the best meal ever, but Karlie could eat whatever she was served at this point, her stomach aching and grumbling for any edible substance. Cara wasn't even trying to keep it cool, she was gobbling up the food like an animal, dragging a few alarmed glances at her.
"I see you're hungry" A familiar voice said in front of them. They looked up to meet their monitor's hazel eyes. Lily was standing above them with a food tray in her hands, smiling warmly at them "Is this seat taken?" She said, pointing at the bench in front of them. They responded negatively, encouraging her to join them with a smile. Lily seated and started munching her food as well, finally breaking expectant silence "How was the test girls?"
"I want to throw my legs into the trash" Commented Daya grunting, which earned a couple of laughs and hums in agreement. A playful conversation settled in the table, Lily was so sweet with them. Karlie learned she was just three years older than them, she was a regular at the camp, one of the most talented people around there, so Anna hired her to be one of the monitors, which she accepted immediately.
"That's impressive" Said Karlie, lowkey impressed with the monitor.
"Yeah, and here I am now" Lily said, finishing her story "By the way, are you prepared for tomorrow test?" She added, sending a teasing smile and a wink at them. Karlie choked with her water, widening her eyes at the monitor, mimicking her roommates reactions, clearly taken by surprise. Lily laughed at them, clapping her hands together "Tomorrow is the agility test"
"When did you mention that?" Daya replied, an unresting expression drawn in her face.
"You guys left early, I told you to wait until the end because I was going to inform about the upcoming test" She said, shaking her head "I'm going to explain it again- Oh Taylor!" Karlie's blood froze when she heard Lily calling that name, hoping with all her soul it wasn't the Taylor she knew, she directed her gaze behind her, where the monitor was looking, seeing effectively the blonde girl going with her tray of food, trying to get a seat a couple of meters away from them, accompanied with Gigi. She saw with a mix of horror and interest Taylor coming closer, not missing the cold glare sent to her, nothing out of character for the city girl "Sit with us!" Lily beamed, patting the empty space next to her "I was going to explain the girls about tomorrow test" Taylor's face flicked with a grimace, Karlie could practically see how her thoughts emerged from that head of hers as the girl moved her eyes from Lily to her.
"T- Tomorrow?" Taylor paled, surprise present in her face. So she had no idea neither.
"Why nobody listen to me when I speak?" Lily said exasperatedly, throwing her head back "Girls take a seat" It wasn't even an option, Lily's voice was authoritative, like when she had to command masses of teeneagers to put order. Taylor and Gigi shared a glance and seated silently next to the monitor, as Lily started a quickly explication "Tomorrow's test is about agility and strategy, it will be at the same hour in the main bonfire. We will make teams and play paintball-"
"What?" Karlie asked, incredulous.
"Paintball?" Taylor seemed more terrified, mouth hanging open, she didn't even look like some cold asshole. How cute. Wait, Karlie you really need to stop that.
"Wow" Daya said, while Cara and Jourdan didn't appeared surprised at all by this new information. Karlie sighed to herself, she could start sensing the soreness of the physical activities they had done just this afternoon, and she knew for a fact that tomorrow was going to be way worse. How were they supposed to do an agility test when they couldn't even move like normal people, but more like degreased robots. I don't even have good aim.
