Kristoni Barnes

March 1st, 11:48 AM

"Charli please finish grabbing the rest of your toys from your room for me," I stressed as I sealed another box closed.

"Okay mommy, I only have a few more."

"Kristoni do you want to pack these dishes up also?" My aunt asked as she helped me pack the remaining things I had left in the kitchen.

"No, I already planned to get some new things for the kitchen. We can give those to Goodwill."

After Dave surprised me with the house a couple weeks ago, I decided to take my time to move in there. It was still a huge step for Charli and I. It wasn't like I was moving around the corner, I was moving all the way to New York. I had to make sure I found a school that I approved of for Charli, and move to a different pediatrics office for my job.

I'd never thought I'd see the day where I'd be moving away from D.C, the only place that I've known since I was younger. But this place has been filled with nothing but negativity for me ever since I was involved with Cain.

I knocked myself out of my thoughts so I could hurry up and finish packing the little bit that I had left.

"Kristoni I'm going to take this box down to Dave at the car," my aunt said before walking out.

Dave came to help me finish moving out because he was about to go on tour for a month, so I won't be able to see my baby. So, he wanted to spend as much time with Charli and I before he had to leave this upcoming weekend.

I finished grabbing the little bit that was left on the counters and put it into one last box, and I heard the door open again.

I assumed it was Dave, so I didn't bother turning around. "Baby, can you take this last box down while I go get Charli out of the room?"

"Hm, baby?" I heard the voice I thought I wouldn't have to face again. I turned around to meet Cain's piercing eyes.

I was tired of this. How did he even get up here without anyone seeing him?

"What do you want Cain?" I said while folding my arms across my chest.

He looked around my empty apartment while chuckling. "So this what you doin' now. Just up and leavin? Where the fuck you taking yo ass with my child Kris?"

I scoffed. "Yes I'm leaving. I am not obligated to stay in this fucked up city that has nothing to offer me. And your child? Please, save that shit."

"You only leaving cause that nigga making you. You letting him get in your head."

"You really think I'm leaving because of him? Did you think about the countless times you've put both me and your child in danger, because of your screwed up temper? You just trashed my entire apartment not less than two months ago, for God knows what. So you know exactly why I'm leaving."

"Where the fuck you going, I need to know where you having my child lay her head at," he said walking closer to me, causing me to back away from him.

I rolled my eyes at his statement, "Nah, you're good. She's beyond fine and is well taken care of. You weren't worrying about her anytime before, so why does she matter to you now? A sad excuse."

On cue, Charli walked out from the back dragging one of her dolls behind her little legs. "Okay, I'm ready mommy. Can I go put Princess T in the car?" She asked looking up at me, not even acknowledging the fact that Cain was even standing in here.

"Yeah sweets, we're getting ready to leave in a few minutes okay?"

She nodded her head before looking up at Cain and immediately moving closer to me, hugging my legs. "Where's daddy?" she asked as she began to hide her face.

"He hasn't gone anywhere sweets," I said as I picked her up and she snuggled her head into my neck.

I looked at Cain as he finally understood what was going on. "You got my daughter calling another nigga daddy Kris?" I could see his anger beginning to seep out, causing me to hold onto Charli tighter.

"I don't have Charli doing anything Cain. Do you really think I wanted Charli to call someone else her daddy who wasn't? It's been almost a year, a year where you haven't provided her with the attention that a father would show their child. Like you didn't care about her. How could you be upset that someone else provided the love that you weren't giving her? You brought this upon yourself. You made this bed and now you need to lay in it."

If there's one thing that I know about Cain, is that he hates being told about himself.

"You need to leave," I heard my Aunt's voice come from behind Cain's body who was hovering over mine.

I moved around him to see my aunt and Dave standing in the doorway.

"Nigga what the fuck you doin here?" Dave said while moving towards us.

"Daddy I want to leave," Charli whined trying to reach for Dave.

"We're leaving soon princess," Dave reassured, before I handed Charli to my aunt so she could take her down to the car. I didn't want her to hear anything else that was going to be exchanged in this room.

Cain chuckled, " I should kill your ass bitch." Before I knew it, he lunged towards me trying to grab me, but Dave blocked him from getting to me.

"Oh I've been waiting for this shit nigga," Cain said before throwing a punch at Dave.

Before I knew it, the two of them were in a full blown fight. I didn't want to throw myself in between two big ass men fighting, but they also needed to stop. I didn't need anyone being nosey and end up calling the feds.

"Can y'all please stop!" I yelled tugging on Dave's arm, trying to pull him back. I know he's doing this for me, but he also has a career to think about.

I know he wasn't listening to anything I was saying because he continued to throw punches in the middle of the empty living room.

"Please!" I yelled again before deciding to push myself in between the two of them, seeing that it was the only thing that would possibly stop them from fighting. I tried to hold on to Dave the best that I could, to stop him from going at him again.

"Get the fuck outta here goofy ass nigga. I better not see yo face around her or Charli no more."

"Don't let me find out where y'all laying your heads at. I promise you this ain't the last time you gon' see me. I keep my word," he said before wiping his mouth and walking out.

I let out the breath that I didn't even know that I was holding in. I pulled Dave's face to mine to look at it. I brushed my finger past the little gash that he had over the top of his eyebrow.

"I told you not to get involved with my bullshit David. Look at you now."

"Kris I don't even wanna hear it. I already told you I'ma go to war for you and Charli. I could give a fuck about a cut over my eye right now."

I sighed in defeat, knowing anything I said right now didn't matter. "I know David."

"Aight then, trust me when I said I got y'all mama," he said before placing a kiss on my forehead. "I'ma take this last box, while you lock up and turn your keys in."

I nodded before looking back at the place I called home for so many years through the ups and down, and closed the door behind me.

It's time for new blessings and beginnings.
