Zorya winced hearing the familiar voice and immediately looked up to see Darius with his army, she shivered on the presence of this cruel and vicious man who was responsible for so much deaths.
Zorya was so angry, so frightened, so many emotions were coming out, her pagan blood was boiling inside of her body and her axe wished to kill this man so badly and she decided to allow this frightening feelings to take a control of her and lead her into the combat.
The pagans soon realized their mistake and they managed to go around the pits in the battle, they could not retreat now, their forces were weaker but their spirits were strong and there was still enough of them to fight this battle.
"Darius!!! I am going to kill you for this!!!" Zorya screamed lifting up her axe and running to Darius, or at least from where she heard her voice because it was still dark. Zorya killed everyone that came in her way, not interested in the other Christians or their miserable lives, she just wanted to kill one man.
"Good evening princess." Darius answered raising his sword to meet her axe.
From his voice she could hear that he was contented with his plan.
"Shut up!!!" Zorya yelled attacking him with axe as fast as her body was allowing her to. Darius was dodging her mad moves knowing that every single one was a fatal one.
Darius blocked her strikes with his sword feeling that his face came closer to hers. For a moment, he even feel bad for hurting her like this, and he prayed to God that he won't have to wound her tonight, or even worse, to kill her.
"I did what I had to, you didn't respect the deal." Darius said.
"You are a monster!" Zorya yelled at him striking once again and this time she heard him groan in pain, she was sure that her axe brushed against his skin even just so slightly but she just wished to bring this man pain, and this made her thrilled with happiness.
"I will accept your kind words as a compliment, princess." Darius managed to answer.
How could he not show even a single emotion after doing something like as ruthless as this. It could have been her there, in that pit, dying like an animal. For a moment, it hurt her in some way she could not allow herself to describe.
Zorya tried to attack him again, but her mind was so focused on killing this man, that she almost forgotten that in the dark, he was superior, and that she could not win so easily.
Soon Darius found himself behind the pagan princess, he managed to pull her body close to his own holding it with tight grip, with his other hand he held a sword on her throat.
Zorya listened the battle raging around her, looking up at the sky just to see the stars again.
"Are you afraid?" Darius asked her holding her body tight to his own.
Zorya could never believe that being so close to death could make her feel so good, maybe confrontation like this could be the ultimate delicacy of pleasure between the two of people.
Deep inside she knew that she shall die in the battle one day, but she wasn't sure she wished that to happen, because it would be that she never found a peaceful life. No matter how much she loved adrenaline of the battle, she also loved peace, and she loved it more.
"I am not scared of you or the death." Zorya said.
"What are you scared off princess?" Darius asked.
"Right now...Myself..." Zorya said as moved the fastest she could to hit Darius and free herself from his tight grip trying to begin the fight with him again, she could not leave before she taken away his life.
Zorya never felt so bloodthirsty before.
The dance of life and death began between the two of them. It was as if they were alone there on the battlefield, never before either of them felt so close to someone in life and in death. Just one wrong move, could cost them everything.
But could they really kill each other?
The sun was slowly raising and the sky was colored in the crimson color, and in front of them was a breathtaking view.
The blood was everywhere and just the smell of it made Zorya sick. Her body was exhausted, her arms and legs were shaking as she was trying to keep up with Darius and other attacks from the Christians around her. Zorya felt as if her whole body was showered with blood of her enemies and maybe her own as well because she was sure she was wounded, but she was so full of adrenaline to feel any pain.
Zorya didn't even knew how much people she had killed that night while she was trying to satisfy her need for bloodshed and revenge.
"Retreat! Everyone pull back!" Boris was yelling.
"Thank you merciful goddess." Zorya whispered to the sky, as her own name carried the meaning of the dawn and its' goddess. She looked at the exhausted man wholse face was also covered with blood.
"We may see again Darius the Dark." Zorya said.
"It will be my pleasure." Darius answered.
With the last atom of her strength she ran as fast as she could with the rest of the pagans, leaving their dead behind for now, but they will come for them and give them the proper funeral because they deserved it.
The journey back home was quiet, awfully quiet, and by looking at Boris, Zorya could guess that this wasn't over, the sun just raised up, this day was only beginning, and Boris decided to give them no rest it seemed.
Before they were even properly greeted by everyone waiting them at home...
"This woman, my sister and our princess had betrayed us! I didn't want to believe that but I saw her alone with an enemy before, with King Darius, plotting how to destroy us and she seemed to know everything about their plans, I am sure she was the one who warned them that we were coming!" Boris yelled pointing at his sister. Everyone looked at Zorya shocked by the words of their king,
"What are you saying Boris?!" Mira their mother couldn't take it anymore.
"No...It is not true..." Zorya said as the tears filled her eyes, this wasn't happening.
"Boris this can't be! Zorya is your sister and a princess!" Vadim said.
"I know what am I saying, she needs to be in chains along with her beast! I am the King now and you should listen to me!" Boris said
"No Boris..." Zorya whispered.
"She shall be thrown in our most secured cell! Tale her! Now!" Boris yelled.
"Please, let me at least take a care of her wounds first! Please son, I am begging you, she is my daughter...I have only you and her left now..." Mira begged her son trembling when she even thought about losing another child.
"She is nobody's daughter, or a sister, and there is no need to heal the wounds of someone who will be burned alive for their sins! Give her no food or water!" Boris yelled.
But the pagans didn't dare to touch their princess or her wolf, accept a few of them who supported Boris more than anyone and believed his words.
"Come on Kreshnik, let's see our new home." Zorya whispered to her wolf and refused to be touched by anyone, she walked peacefully to her cell as her wolf was by her side.
