Chapter 41

SUKHI'S POV
I felt the tears that threatened to come out "Sukhi?" Arjun called me and I didn't know what to say as if my voice was gone. Just then, a hand came in front of me.

"Hi, I am Ahaan Panday. Nice to meet you, Sukhi"

I hesitated not knowing what to do, I never thought I was ever going to face him like this. Leaving him like that was something I was still regretting but at that time, it was the only choice I could ever make. There were times where I wanted to go back to London and go to him and fix everything, but I was scared of hurting him again and what I did was unforgivable. My heart wasn't ready to know he moved on and coming back to him would have ruined the world he created after I left. Now, looking at him with another girl, made me realise that he really moved on. I should have been happy for him but one part of me was shuttering into small pieces. I wanted to hug him and tell him how much I missed him but I couldn't, I was too late and who was I even missing? I hurt him and I guess, this was my punishment, serve him as my client, the boy I loved the most in the world was going to marry with another girl and in front of me.

I tried to smile as widely as I could, before shaking his hand politely. Ahaan's eyes were analysing my actions, they were too deep for me to handle that I looked down for a moment, to see our hands shaking, somehow I felt goosebumps and he seemed to notice that too. I nervously stepped back next to Arjun, who held my arm and I still could feel his eyes on me.

"I think this is a good deal, but before signing the contract I would like to talk to my friends, as I told you on the call" Ahaan said and Arjun nodded smiling. We were sitting in Arjun's office, my eyes were on the couple who was sitting in front of us. I wasn't even paying attention to the conversation they were having since my attention was on Ahaan's hand that was caressing the hand of the girl. I was suffocating there, it was hard for me to be there and all I wanted was to leave everything and just go somewhere else and cry. I felt tears coming and I tried not to look at them "Right, Sukhi?" suddenly Arjun asked me and I looked at him confused "We will handle everything, right?" he repeated as if he felt like I was distracted "S-sure, it's our job in the end. Y-you guys don't need to worry about anything, everything will be perfect" I gave them a smile, which I know looked fake but it was convincing since I saw Naira smiling.

"Oh my God, I can't believe I am actually getting married" she yelled and hugged Ahaan once we were done and here I was again, hurt. Arjun on the other side came closer to me "Are you okay?" he asked me and I felt like crying but I couldn't since they were still there "Yeah, I am just tired" I lied and he seemed to notice as he put his hand on my back and caressed "Are you worried about the Pumpkinhead?" he asked and I shook my head "Weird..you didn't react on the nickname today, I am hurt" he acted as if someone stabbed his heart and I smiled a little. I looked at Ahaan and found him already looking at me "We will talk later" Arjun finally said and I nodded looking down "So guys it was nice meeting you, right Babe?" Naira said smiling and looked at Ahaan waiting for his reaction "Yeah, can't wait to see your work" he replied staring at me, as if he was challenging me and I felt uncomfortable but stayed there, making eye contact.

AHAAN's POV
"Thanks babe" Naira said and I ignored her and kept focusing on the road as we were going back to the hotel "Did you see how nice they were?" she asked but this time I held the steering tightly and hummed trying not to sound rude. "They looked even good together. Did you see when Arjun held her arm? So cute" I stopped the car "We have arrived" I told her "Aren't you coming?" Naira asked me "I have something to do, I will see you later" I told her and waited for her to get out of the car then driving away.

I wanted to go away from that place, seeing her was already enough for me to break the wall I was creating for five years. A barrier made of tears and fake comfort which didn't even took five seconds to fall after seeing her.
I still remember how I spent my nights awake crying for her, missing her and trying to look for her. And look here she was, new life and new people living like nothing happened!
I pressed the accelerator, I didn't know if I hated her or I was disappointed to see her but I felt like I wasted five fucking years for someone, who didn't even care about anyone.

As if I was driving fast I didn't notice a kid crossing the road and when I realised I pressed the break as much as possible while turning the car on the right side of the road. I got out of the car and run towards the little boy who was hiding his face with his small hands and sitting on the road. "Are you okay?" I asked him worried and he pulled his hands away slowly "Am I alive?" he asked and I laughed a little "You are" I replied and helped him to stand up "I wonder who gave you the license" the little boy asked and I was surprised "Oh well, even I want to know that too now" I said smiling and he cleaned his clothes "I am sorry buddy" I told him "If you are really sorry, then buy me an Ice Cream and take me home with that nice car of yours" he told me and I smiled "Sure, come on".

"What is your name, buddy?" I asked him while we were walking on the sidewalk "Aarav" he replied confident "Aarav, nice name" I complimented him "I know, my mum chose it" he walked and I giggled "Why were you crossing the road alone?" I asked him "I wanted to go home" he answered as we arrived at the Ice Cream Parlour. "What flavour you want?" I asked him "Strawberry" Aarav replied "Don't you like chocolate?" I asked him "No, I hate it" he answered.
Just then a flashback came on my mind.

FLASHBACK
"Don't you like chocolate?" I asked her while having my Ice cream "No, I hate it. Including Nutella" Sukhi said playing with biscuit of her ice cream. When I didn't give her a reply back, she looked up only to see me frozen "Are you an alien or something?" I  asked her and she laughed at my reaction. Instantly, I put the cream of her ice cream on her nose "Hey! What did you do?" she yelled "Now, you look like a real alien" I said and she put my cream on my face too "Now, you look like a real jerk" she said while laughing.
END OF THE FLASHBACK
"What happened?" Aarav asked while licking his Ice cream "Nothing, eat well" I told him while waiting for him to finish his meal. "Why didn't your mum come to pick you?" I asked him "I think she must be have been late or something" he replied "And how about your dad?" I asked him while cleaning his hands "Oh, I am looking for him. I hope one day I can find him and take him home but don't tell mum, she will get worried" he told me. Somehow, I saw myself in him, his eyes were showing the same hope I had when I was a child and my parents didn't have much time for me so I had to take care of myself. I felt the need to protect him but I couldn't, I was a hurricane myself and he didn't deserve someone like me in my life but I was ready to help him anyhow.

I caressed his hair "One day, you will find him, come on let's take you home" I held his hand and took him in my car. "Wow, your car is really awesome. I wish I had a car like this" Aarav said and I smiled "If you want I can take you for a ride someday" I told him and he looked at me "Pinky promise?" he offered his small pinky and I found myself hesitating but held his pinky promises.
"Where do you live?" I asked him "You can drop me next to that park, I will walk home because my mum will get upset if she finds me with a stranger" he told me and I nodded "I think she is right, you shouldn't hang out with strangers, buddy" I explained him stopping the car next to the park "If you were a bad stranger you wouldn't have tried your best to stop the car and then run to check if I was fine or not, right?" he asked and I found myself surprised "Bye, buddy" he greeted me while shaking his hand "Bye, Aarav".

I waited for him to cross the road and walking home before driving back to the hotel. Somehow, meeting him made me feel good and healed after what happened today.
