I wore a simple black sleevless dress. Nothing too fancy.

I didn't bother to tie my long black hair and instead brushed it thoroughly.

Connie lived in a small one story house that she shared with her older brother, Carl.

The inside was decorated with balloons and a banner saying 'Happy Birthday Raven', obviously hand made.

It seemed like Connie had invited our whole class.

I was greeted by many classmates wishing me a happy birthday. I thanked them politely.

For some reason, Claude wasn't here. I sighed in relief.

Connie's older brother Carl had invited some of his friends too, including his girlfriend, Melissa.

Carl looked like he was in his mid twenties. He had the same ginger hair and freckles as his sister. He was mature and mannered and always treated the friends Connie brought over kindly.

I'd only seen him a few times yet it was like we were good friends.

'Happy Birthday, Raven,' he and his girlfriend passed me presents.

I opened it to reveal that one of them was a bubble bath set and the other a pair of earnings.

'You guys are spoiling me!' I told Connie.

'Well duh, its your birthday!'

To be honest, I haven't ever gotten this many presents before. When it was my birthday, Mrs Helston would make me a little special supper and I'd get two or three gifts from them. They'd always try and make that day the happiest ever.

It never really worked though.

'Where're the snacks, Connie, I'm starving!' I told her.

'They're in the kitchen'

I walked to the kitchen still rubbing my belly.

Sure enough, there were hundreds of plates of snacks on the table.

But that's not what surprised me.

What surprised me was that Claude was sitting on a chair, nibbling on some cookies.

I groaned.

'What are you doing here?' I questioned him.

He shrugged his shoulders 'I was invited.'

Suddenly, a smirk appeared on his face.

'Did you get my present?' He said smugly.

'Yes,' I sighed 'Worst present yet from you.'

He got up from his chair. 'Well how about this one?' He said, taking out a small gift box from his pocket.

My eyes widened.

'Close your eyes,'he whispered.

'I don't trust you,' I replied to him.

'Fine, then turn around.'

I cautiously obeyed his request.

I knew he was going to trick me somehow.

He moved my long hair from my back and placed what seemed to be a necklace around my neck.

The word Raven was engraved in the charm which was encrusted in tiny precious gems.

'Are you happy now?' Claude said impatiently.

I looked down at the necklace, amazed. 'This is-'

'Your present, I know. Hope you're satisfied.' He scoffed.

He reached at my face, delicately grasping my chin and holding my head up so that our eyes met.

He started examining my face.

'You don't... 'He finally said 'Look that bad.'

I pulled away, appalled. 'What do you mean, 'not that bad'?!' I yelled.

'I mean, you're not as ugly as you were before,'he replied calmly

'You weren't a sight yourself, you know!'

'Well, I looked much better than you did.'

I shoved him and he shoved me back harder. We ended up on the floor, fighting like there was no tomorrow. It took at least four people to pull us apart and by that time, both of us looked a mess.

'That's right, go run home to your mommy,' I called at him.

'Well at least I have one,' he replied smugly.

That's it. He had crossed the line.

I broke free from Ayesha's hold and punched Claude right in the face.

'You Bitch!' He shouted back, clutching his eye.

'Stay out of my life, bastard!' I roared at him, walking out the room.

I'd had enough of this party, so I left immediately.

(A/N Woah, beef in this chapter. Sorry about the strong language in it but I did rate it pg13 for a reason. Hope you enjoyed it and carry on reading! Also it would be nice if you voted for this chapter, too!)
