4th of June 1776
~Y/N's pov~
It had been only a day since Samuel left. He left on the third of June and was expected to be back in November. I missed him but I knew he was there for a reason. He was there to help win the war.
Today was the King's birthday. He was apparently 30 today, older than I thought. But I didn't really care, all I had to do was clean. And now with Ella's help, I'll get my cleaning done in no time.
It was hectic throughout the whole palace. There were other servants all over the place. Apparently, it was going to be a big celebration so preparation was very fast-paced. Once Ella and I finished cleaning up the hall and King's room we decided to go to the markets and come back later.
Ella and I made our way to the gate entrance to be let out. It was admittedly a long walk but Ella and I were desperate to leave. When we arrived at the entrance, Benjamin the guard was standing still. "Hi, Ben!" Ella waved at him causing him to blush, "So Ella and Y/N where are you two heading." I stepped forward, "Just out to the markets to avoid the chaos. Ben smiled and opened the gate for us, "See you too later." He waved as we stepped onto the path outside.
The markets were admittedly crowded and full. But it brought me a wave of nostalgia. It reminded me of the markets that were held in our small village. I was enamoured at the sights and wondered aimlessly, dragging my cousin along. We planned on staying until late at night to see a comet that passes by approximately every 50 years.
As we walked around we went to almost every stall. Even though we didn't intend on buying anything, we were intrigued. As the night fell, the town became a beacon of light. Torches glew and songs were being echoed throughout the streets. "This is amazing, Y/N." Ella smiled staring at her surroundings. I agreed this sight was something I'd never forget.
Ella then pointed at a crowd of people in a park, "Come on Y/N let's go and see the comet." Ella grabbed my arm and pulled me towards her. We both ran dodging carts and trying not to trip on stray rocks.
The park was full of people. Families all waiting for the comet to appear. The Ulysses comet occurred every fifty years or so. The reason most people are drawn to it is because of its luminescent purple and blue colour. But there was an old legend that went with this wonder.
The Ulysses comet used to be a young woman from Arthurian England. She was a sorceress who could grant people wishes. Ulysses was a very beautiful woman and attracted a lord. The lord chased after Ulysses's affection but she was too witty for him. The lord full of jealousy stabbed Ulysses in her sleep. Ulysses knowing that she was about to die granted herself a wish to live again. And so she did, she was reborn as the Lords daughter. Although in her childhood she didn't remember her past life, when she was sixteen she passed out and found put about her past. That night she stabbed her father in revenge and then killed herself out of pain.
Ulysses then became the comet that grants people a second life, a second life of what the first wasn't. Most people don't believe in the tale but I truly believe in another chance.
I sat down on the wet grass with Ella and stared up into the sky. The comet flashed through the sky creating an explosion of light. My eyes widened and I made my wish.
I wish that we'll win this war. It was my only wish.
The comet soon disappeared causing the sky to fade back into darkness. I then felt Ella pull me up, music had started being played and people were dancing. Ella held my hands and guided me to dance. I copied her steps and watched her rhythmically dance. I tried to mimic her but ended up as an uncoordinated mess. She laughed and spun herself around. "You need to teach me how to dance." I giggled stumbling on the slippery grass. Ella smiled, "When we get back to the palace we can practice in the spare hall!" I smirked back and we spun our way out of the park.
The streets were full of cheer and happiness and guitars played a joyful melody as the stars danced. This was one fo the best nights of my life.
~King George's pov~
Tonight was the worst night ever. The ball for my birthday was miserable and full of young women trying to woo me. I couldn't help but feel miserable, I knew these girls had no choice. They didn't really think of me as some charming guy, they were scared of me.
I danced with a few women but soon retired to my throne watching all the young couples dance together. I was already 30. I mean even that German princess from a few years back ran away from me to another man.
Maybe I was unwanted. Maybe I should go. I got out of my throne and snuck away. No one would care anyway if I disappeared.
I walked down the gloomy halls and saw the portraits of all the past Kings and Queens. I felt as if was a disappointment in their eyes. I looked at the one of Henry the eighth. How did he manage to get six wives while I couldn't even attract one? I laughed, but not at Henry but me. What will historians remember me as?
The lonely King?
The King whose colonies rebelled against him?
The King who no one liked?Whatever it be I highly doubt I'll be remembered. I'm a disappointment and a failure.
I continued walking through the palace in misery until heard giggling from one of the halls. I peered inside to see Y/N and Ella dancing. Y/N was uncoordinated and tried to follow Ella. Somehow this made the uptight and serious Y/N seem more charming.
I opened the door wider and the cousins stopped.
"Hi."
