Do you ever just wait for something to happen? Like, you don't even know if this thing is gonna happen, but you want it to?That's how I feel right now. I'm going through my entire school day, eyeing my phone.
Audrey gave Niall my phone number yesterday, and he has yet to call or text. It seems a little suspicious to me. I'm on edge all day.
I can't even focus during my classes. It's not like I want him to call me. I don't know why I'm getting all worked up.
That's a fat lie. I want to talk to him so badly. I want to talk to all of them, excluding Harry. I'm so thankful Audrey gave them my number. I didn't cave from my resolve, but I can still possibly talk to them. It's a loophole.
Gosh, I hope he calls soon.
When it's time to go to chemistry, I go to class early. I decide that if Laine doesn't regret kissing me, he'll sit next to me. If he does, he'll find another seat. We usually sit next to each other, but I guess I'll have to fend for myself if he chooses that last night was a mistake.
He walks into the classroom and I pretend to look busy, going through my notes. My heart thumps out of my chest as I wait for him to decide.
I see his shoes in front of me and look up. He gives me a white smile and points to the seat. "Is this seat taken?"
I roll my eyes. "You know no one would sit in your seat," I tease. He laughs and puts his stuff down in front of him before sitting. "Oh shoot, I forgot your jacket again." I mentally smack myself for two reasons. One: he probably doesn't give a shit about the jacket, and two: this can lead to a conversation about last night.
Luckily he doesn't comment on it. "Are you going to the bonfire tonight?"
"There's a bonfire?" I ask, clueless.
He laughs and stretches his arm around my seat, making my heart skip a beat. "Yeah, it's a PIKE thing. Happens every year."
I nod slowly. "I don't know."
"You're going," he says definitively. "And you can return the jacket then."
Who does he think he is, telling me what to do? I'm about to argue but the professor walks to the front of the class and begins lecturing.
You win this one, Laine.
When class ends, I shove all my stuff into my bag. Laine packs up quickly and stands. "I'll come pick you up around eight." And with that, he leaves.
I confusedly stare at his retreating figure. How does he do that? He makes no room for questions or hesitation.
Chemistry is my last class today. After, I head back to the dorm to take a nap. Sonia waves at me from her desk and continues doing her homework.
I toss my backpack on the ground and change into pajamas. Then I crawl into bed.
My nap is short. My phone rings and I immediately grab it, thinking it's Niall.
Disappointment courses through me when it's just Macy. "Hi," I sigh, trying not to sound disappointed.
She doesn't notice anything off. "Hey! Any update on Laine?"
"Oh yeah," I yawn. "He invited me to a bonfire tonight."
"Shut up! Is it the PIKE bonfire?"
I nod, then realize she can't see me. "Yeah."
