You know when things are good, but a little too good?
I've always had this sense of paranoia in my brain. When things are going well, they're bound to crash and burn.
Well, things have been eerily going well for me. I haven't had an unwanted visitor since the day both Harry and Niall showed up at my place. I've gotten no annoying phone calls (granted, I did block Niall) and Sonia has been really good about not meddling.
What's worrying me is this calm. I know Harry and I know he's one of the most stubborn people in the world. There's no way he's backed off that easily.
But, I can't complain. This past week has been nothing but blissful. With spring break just around the corner, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Or it's the calm before the storm.
That also means midterms are coming up. It's important for me to focus on exams before thinking about a week off school.
"Hey, babe." A soft hand touches my shoulder, giving me a break from studying. I turn around and give Laine a swift kiss before facing my work again. Out of the corner of my eye I see Macy's amused look and Sonia's annoyed scowl.
He's been joining us in our study sessions lately. I don't think Macy minds, but Sonia obviously does. If it was any other person, she'd be fine. She's just not Laine's biggest fan, being on team Harry and whatnot.
We already force her to study on the lower levels of the library and adding Laine to the mix doesn't fare well with her.
But I don't feel guilty.
She completely went against me with the whole Harry thing and she's free to leave anytime she wants.
"Hey Macy, Brad wanted me to tell you to call him," Laine tells the redhead.
She arches her perfectly manicured brows. "Why doesn't he act like a man and call me?"
Laine awkwardly rubs his neck. Poor dude is caught in the middle of her mess. "Uh, he said you blocked him."
She smugly smiles and looks at her blood-red acrylics. "And there's a reason for that. Tell him to take a hint."
Ugh, she's such a badass. The amount of guys she's pulled in this semester is shocking. Even better, she obviously has the upper hand. Major bad bitch energy.
I smile behind my laptop screen. He slings his arm around my chair and leans into me, looking at what I'm working on.
"English," I tell him, never breaking my gaze from my screen. "I have a paper to write."
"What's it on?"
"It's a creative writing assignment. We get to write a fictional story. Mine's on..." I trail off. It's about me, I guess. Me and Harry.
"Well?"
I swiftly lower my screen and face him. "It's about a girl who's struggling to not get addicted to caffeine but really wants some right now." He laughs loudly, earning a few stares. "Want to come with?"
He doesn't answer but gets up instead. I take that as a yes and stand. I telepathically tell my friends to get all their venting out before I'm back. Laine's barely witnessed it, but now's not the time to start. And based on Sonia's stance, I can tell she's waiting to snap.
We wait in line and I order my usual. Laine joins me and places his order as well, handing the cashier his student ID.
"You tryna impress me with your dining dollars? Because it's working," I tease. The cashier snorts out a laugh.
