The February sun sets early and the day passes before my eyes. I've mostly lazed around besides taking a quick lunch break. My bed is my number one snuggle buddy.

Sonia's ready to go to this party tonight. She's more than eager to dress me up. She even put on her makeup way earlier, just so she'd have time to get me ready.

"Consider me your doll," I huff, getting into her desk chair. She rolls her eyes and begins working on my hair. It naturally waves, so I don't do much to it normally. The length hinders me from doing much anyway.

Once it's completely straight, she moves on to makeup. I do my own base makeup then give her control over eyes and whatever extra she wants to add.

She does a gold smokey eye and adds thick lashes. She dusts a light blush over the apples of my cheeks and attempts to contour my face, but I remind her to not go overboard. She chooses a pink shade for my lips and adds perfectly symmetrical eyeliner wings to each of my eyes.

"Shit, you look so good!" she squeals at the finished product. I finally glance in the mirror and grin. I do, I really do.

I pull her into a light hug, careful not to mess our makeup up. "Thank you."

"Of course!"

She pulls out a top she wants me to wear. I pair it with black jeans and my pair of "frat" shoes. You know, that pair of shoes you don't care about and wear to every party because you know they'll get ruined? Those.

"Gorgeous," she blows a kiss, but I can tell it's more directed toward herself.

"When's Macy getting here?"

She furrows her brows before wiping all emotion off her face. "Oh, she called me and told me she's sick. Can't make it tonight."

"Aw," I pout. "Poor baby. I'll have to call her later."

"Don't!" she says quickly. "I mean... I already told her on behalf of both of us. She really needs to rest."

"Uh-huh..." I say slowly. Why is she acting so weird? "So... who's driving?"

"Me! I'm sure you wanna drink and, like, worst-case scenario, we can call an Uber back."

I nod in agreement and grab my purse. We lock arms and walk to her car.

Just the sight of the house sends excitement through my body. I'm ready for a wild night with no responsibilities. No Harry, no past secrets threatening to be heard.

Sonia seems just as eager. We step onto the porch when we're stopped by a scrawny freshman who's wearing a blazer that swallows his body whole. "Woah, ladies. Name a brother."

"What? We've never had to do that before..." Sonia points out.

The boy shrugs like he couldn't care less. "We've been having some issues with unwanted visitors."

It would be easy to push past him and walk in, but I'd rather not be blacklisted. "Laine," I say confidently.

"Kirk? The president? I doubt it," he snorts. My mouth defensively opens, offended that he'd even say that.

My knight in shining armor comes through. He sees us at the doorway and pushes through the crowd.  "Let them in, they're with me," he tells the 'bouncer'.

The scrawny boy looks shocked and reluctantly lets us through. Sonia and I share an excited look and walk past.

"Maybe he is good for something," she nudges me.

We meet Laine on the other side and I immediately go in for a small kiss.

"I'll be back," she yells over the music. I nod and watch her leave, then refocus on him.
