The next few days were spent with my two bestest friends. As weird as they were acting, I really missed Drew and Audrey. We would either lounge around or party. We even went to the mall at some point. It really depended on Audrey's schedule–which was a weird enough thought. It was now Friday, and I decided enough was enough.
"Niall, I can't believe I went through the effort of calling you and you didn't pick up," I scoff into the phone. When I called, I expected him to jump out of his seat to talk to me. Instead, I get his voicemail. "Well, I called to ask if you wanted to hang out today. I'm leaving tomorrow morning. Anyway, if you're not ignoring me, call me back. Bye."
I hang up the phone and toss it on the couch. So much for reconciling. I nervously bite my lip as I think about the past couple of weeks. I was a little harsh on Niall. I'm still pissed at him, but it's not fair that he did the same thing that Sonia did but I didn't forgive him. I guess I could let it slide.
Then again, it's his fault I'm in this situation in the first place. Without him, Harry would've never gotten my number. I would've never seen Harry, and I wouldn't have cheated on Laine.
God, Laine. I feel so so so bad.
I also feel anxious about what's to come. If I remember correctly, Laine didn't sound too pleased on the phone, but not too pissed either. He said not to call him for the rest of break and I'll respect that, even though I'm dying to. He needs time to think through things.
I like Laine, I really do. Now that it's clear that Harry and I are over, he's perfect. I'm totally content with him.
If he'll even take me back...
"What? Why are you sulking now?" Audrey asks as she plops down on the couch next to me.
"A lot," I absentmindedly mumble. "Mostly Laine. I feel like a shitty person."
Audrey scoffs. "He's a frat boy, I'm sure he'll have plenty of girls to rebound with."
I cringe at the truth. "Yeah, but I really like him, Aud."
Surprise overtakes her face. "So Harry and you...?"
"Done," I conclude. "It just makes sense, you know. Nothing's really changed from before, except the fact that we aren't fighting anymore. I don't belong in his world."
She gives me a long, wary look before nodding. "If that makes you happy." That's the thing I like about Aud. She isn't team Harry or team Laine like everyone else in my life. She's team Ellie. She only wants to see me happy. "So, Laine. What are you going to do about him?"
"Apologize profusely," I sigh pitifully. "Grovel on my knees, explain to him that I was drunk even though it doesn't excuse it, cry? Although something tells me that'll naturally happen."
She shakes her head and puts her hands on top of mine. "Whatever happens, it'll be for the best."
"You're right," I sigh, leaning on to her shoulder. "I'm going to miss having a non-biased friend."
She laughs and pinches my nose. "Don't forget me. I'm a phone call away."
I raise my head up and stare at her in an amused manner. "Me? You don't forget me. God, the next time I come over, you guys will be doing your taxes or something."
She sheepishly smiles. "We do our taxes every year."
"No way!"
"Shut up," she laughs, pushing me off the couch. "So, that's it? You're leaving tomorrow?"
"Yeah," I sigh. "I need some time to get my head straight before I face Laine." And make up a cover story about this break to tell my friends. Macy knew that Harry was here but she doesn't really know the details. I'm not planning on telling either.
