present day
Zero had informed Chase that he had joined the school's volleyball club in hopes of making it into the volleyball team. Chase didn't question him any further, because he was aware of how Zero had always wanted to be involved in the school's activities. To be truthful, Zero had no idea how volleyball worked. He had even attempted to serve with his foot once, but it didn't raise any suspicion in Chase - because he knew that Zero was always trying his best to improve himself.
"Chase?" Zero said softly from beside him.
Chase raised his eyebrow at Zero, "Yeah?"
"I'm really sorry, but I forgot to bring my pencil pouch.."
"I don't think you've ever brought it to school before," Chase chuckled.
Nevertheless, he proceeded to hand Zero his own pencil pouch.
"Here you go, keep it."
"I-.. I can't do that, Chase-"
"I insist," Chase grinned. "It's a win-win situation, too."
"Why? So I can stop bothering you?" Zero smiled playfully.
"No, so I don't need to take notes during class," Chase shrugged.
The two boys shared a fit of giggles before going back to focusing in class. Or, in Chase's case - pretending to focus. Chase was what most teachers would consider an empty vessel. He was physically present, but mentally - his mind was wandering in a whole other dimension.
Whilst Zero proceeded to take down the important notes for the lesson, Chase couldn't help himself from looking over at his best friend. No sooner had he done so than Zero's sleeve rode up once again - this time, on the other hand.
"Zero?" Chase called quietly.
Zero only nodded whilst continuing to write down something in his notebook.
"How come you only wear a forearm guard on your left hand? Isn't your right hand your dominant hand?" he questioned. "In that case, shouldn't you be serving with your right forearm?"
Zero pulled his sleeve back down in a hurry after noticing that his forearm was now visible, "Well - I'm trying out something new, I guess."
"You're trying to serve with your non-dominant hand?" Chase grinned with his head slightly tilted. "You never fail to impress me, Zero."
