The bell went off, indicating the start of the first lesson of the day. Chase and Tyler had barely made it to class in time, yet still arrived a few minutes before the teacher. Tyler proceeded to take his usual seat - which was in a corner all the way at the back of the class, with his girlfriend. Chase scanned the room before spotting an empty seat next to a boy who had his head down in his desk, making it look like he was asleep.
Paying no mind to that, he made his way over to the boy and took his seat. The sudden disturbance seemed to wake the boy next to him. Just as Chase was about to look over at the boy and make conversation, the door slammed open and in came the teacher.
Said teacher was somewhat a carbon copy of Chase himself. Dyed brown hair with blonde streaks swept to one side, chocolate brown eyes and olive skin that looked like it had been exposed to a fair amount of sunlight.
It was no coincidence, however. This teacher, was also Chase's father. Matthias Warren, they called him. Out of all the members in Chase's family, his father had to be the most intimidating. Matthias, being brought up in a strict and restrictive household, practised the same system of discipline on Chase. He demanded more and more each time from his son, and when he was disappointed - he made no efforts in hiding it.
However, he would never say something that would hurt Chase's feelings. After all, he was human and Matthias was aware of that. He had also never laid a hand on Chase. He believed in the system of teaching discipline with words.
"Beating a child only instils fear in them, not discipline," was what he always said.
"Good morning, class," he spoke with a raspy voice - something Matthias received after years of being a reckless chain-smoker, before ultimately quitting when he had his son. "I hope all of you enjoyed your holidays. However, the fun stops here. From here on out, I'm going to be preparing you for your finals. Speaking of which, I hope you haven't forgotten about them-"
And the rest of what he said was blocked out by Chase.
"Shit," said the boy beside him.
Chase looked over at the boy who was now rummaging through his bag frantically. His dark hair had fallen over his face, concealing his features from Chase who was eagerly trying to get a peak of what the male looked like.
"What's wrong?" he questioned, his voice barely above a whisper.
The boy paused for only a moment before going back to looking through his bag, "It appears I've forgotten to bring my textbook."
When he still didn't meet Chase's eyes, Chase reached out for his own bag and pulled out his textbook, sliding it over to the boy.
"Here, you can have mine. I don't pay attention in class anyway," he confessed.
"I-.. Are you sure?" the boy questioned hesitantly whilst reaching out for the book.
Chase only nodded in response, "I'm sure, Zero."
At this, the boy's head snapped up in surprise, his eyes finally meeting Chase's curious ones.
"How did you-"
"Your voice," Chase admitted. "How could I forget your voice?"
Zero only smiled in response.
